66 Sat,
Just for you......a 1958 Ply Bel, tested by the Aussie Wheels magazine. They tended to rubbish American cars. This one they raved about....& everything about it.
It weighed 3800 lb, had a cast iron TF, & ran 118 mph with a 3.15 diff. It did all that with a 318 Poly, 9:1 CR....& a 2 bbl...
66 Sat,
I am not sure what those calcs are for.........
Just showing what can be plucked off the net.....or in my case out of a book.....to look impressive.
The trouble is......a misfire can be sooo many things. Easy to fix/change things like spark plugs is a good idea.
But you could have burned/bent valves, wiped cam lobes, broken v/spring, leaking intake gasket etc
The Edel 800 carbs are simply amazing. Carter did not make a 800 AFB, 750 was the largest. Edel increased the cfm by going 1/16" bigger in the t/bores.
I had the 800 AFB on my GTO. 3.08 axle, man valve body T350, 10" low stall c'ter. In top gear, at walking speed, I could go to WOT & the car...
[1] Carb size has NOTHING to do with a lean condition
[2] You could fit a lawn mower carb.....& it could be rich.
[3] Congrats on the Edel carb, a great choice.
[4] Reading spark plugs for heat range is useless, unless it is done under certain conditions.
[5] Get some NGK BP5S plugs. They are...
Bob likes to baffle us with his BS, but anybody can pluck that info from the net....or a book. Below is from Larew's Carburetion book......
I am sure most people working on their carb only have a vague idea, if any, who Bernoulli is/was.
Probably think he runs the Italian restaurant on main...
Photon,
The metering rod carbs like Carters, QJ are faaar superior to the H carbs [ & clones ] that use a power valve. Look at the torturous path the fuel has to take from the PV in a H carb to get to the booster. It slows throttle response.....There is a reason H did NOT use a PV in the Street...
Bob,
You were the one who not long ago ON THIS FORUM claimed the Edel AVS carbs had annular secondary boosters. So much for your knowledge.....
Trying to bamboozle people with BS again I see......
It gets a bit tiresome......
And then with the exact science of carb airflow, you use words...
Lemon,
I agree! But finding a TQ in good condition & getting it running can be daunting for those not aquainted with the TQ. So next best is the Edel carb which comes with comprehensive tuning instructions....
Only on the 625 & 750 AFB. I have eyeballed both & am pretty sure they are interchangeable. Edel added sec boosters to their AVS carbs, so not interchangeable with Carter.
I am old-er, but still young enough to learn......
And what I have learned from this thread is a valuable lesson: to be veeeeeeeeeeery careful who you chose to help.
I helped 66 Sat...& his engine runs better as a result.
He accuses me of 'cherry picking'. Convenient, huh. I did miss that...
Not in the test that I have.......The 383 S/bee was a little lighter......by 125 lbs, NOT 173lbs, & 95 lbs lighter than the Cyclone. It also had the smallest engine in the test [ you missed that ]. The 383 gave up 45 cu inches to the 428 Ford but got the same 1/4 time.
The testers rated the SB...
The little ol 625 Carter AVS. Fitted to the 340. The 340 also had the 800 CFM TQ. Which do you think was quicker?
In Jan 1969, height of the muscle car era, Car & Driver tested the econo racers. No frills cars. Two Ferds, 383 Dodge, Hemi, Chev 396. Cars were rigorously checked to make sure...
