So I think I have to say I was wrong here. It seems like catalytic converters like heat to operate, so it seems location might matter a lot.
I decided to look it up, since I obviously do not have a good grasp on catalytic converter details. It seems there are two kinds of converters.
Per a...
First, I'd try to verify what is causing your issues. Maybe it is just a rich fuel mixture? The Sniper EFI should have controlled this, but my EFI system has different settings for air/fuel ratio. Do you still have a rich idle A/F ratio? Maybe something to check.
A catalytic converter converts...
I have now sold my 73 Road Runner that had those headers, so I can no longer give you a measurement. Below are the best two pictures I could find.
Note that I had a big piece of angle iron welded to my K member to protect my oil pan and headers. Even with that, they will still hit a bit.
My...
Your car may just not be programmed in to the database as being a "fit". I believe any B-body small block headers will fit.
Having said that, I will state what I have said before on some other threads. Many small block B-body headers route three driver side tubes under the steering. This makes...
The headers pictured in my post above (and again first picture below) are Hedman Street Headers 78056. I suggest you avoid those headers due to clearance issues. But there are many other headers that route the tubes the same way. Use the picture as a reference, and if the driver side three tubes...
A 318 can run very nicely with decent power. But ANY engine is basically an air pump. For performance, you need to get air in (carb and intake) air through (heads) and air out (exhaust manifold/ headers and exhaust).
I will assume your 318 is mostly stock and that you are driving this on the...
It should be louder with the tips vs. the turn downs. If you look, for example, at a 68-70 B bodies fender tag, N97 = Noise reduction package – required in CA. This package was basically turn downs, and I think perhaps a snorkel air cleaner on some models.
I don't recommend any brand that has cutouts that slide shut - get the ones with a butterfly that swivel open.
I've only had experience with one set. A customer requested cutouts and bought the type that slide open. They were a pain in the *** and kept getting stuck.
I have TTI's on my 383 based 70 Road Runner. They fit perfect and are still some of the best fitting headers I have ever installed.
I'm not sure how I can help you measure, but I can help with a specific measurement comparison, let me know.
As others have stated, I suggest TTI. Be prepared for sticker shock, but in my opinion they are worth it. It seems most small block headers route 3 of the tubes UNDER the steering linkage. This sets them down really low and they are a pain in the arse when driving around as they hit often (my...
That's a shame to hear. My TTI headers went in without a single tiny ding needed - anywhere! My car is a 70 Road Runner with a 383 and 4 speed, Power steering and brakes.
I agree.
If you fit any resonator, you will have to deal with changing your exhaust pipes, dealing with fitment issues, hangers, etc. It can be a pain in the butt to get an exhaust to hang right and fit well. Replacing the mufflers keeps the same system and fit you have now. There are a lot of...
Sorry, late to the game.
What engine do you have (B or RB) and do you have matching TTI headers? TTI makes both B and RB headers. If you pair B headers with a RB engine or vice versa you will likely have fitment issues.
My B headers from TTI fit my 383 4 Speed Road Runner like a glove - no...
So I can't honestly tell you that I have installed tons of headers on various big block Mopars - I haven't. So yes, I would expect that RB headers on a B block would hang down lower beneath the car. In some cases that might give more room, but if a header tube is avoiding stuff below or beside...
TTI, and here is why:
Look around and see how many headers are made for B engines vs. RB. Almost none - they all just list big blocks which means typically RB. That means the fit of most headers on your B engine will be less then ideal.
I have TTI on my 70 Road Runner with a 383. No dents, no...
This sucks - sorry to hear this happened.
You all but certainly need some welding any way you try to tackle this, so I'll throw out another brainstorming idea: Drop the gas tank (pretty easy), and cut a decent sized rectangular hole in the SIDE of the frame rail beside the bolt (and save the...
