A couple of things. The trans may have had a governor or weight change requiring higher shift points. Dont know for sure. The engine in the car may have weak valve springs that can not keep the valves closed under boost. I recently bought a new set of valve springs but have not installed them yet.
I used that once in a 1980 Diplomat sometime in the early 80's. Turned the inside of the engine black. Subsequent oil changes became black immediately. Didn't hurt anything. Just had black oil forever after that.
Surprisingly, the Bouchillon cable kit made a noticeable difference in drivability. Adjusted the cable to have trans kick down lever at full stroke when carb is at WOT. Slow and medium speed shifts are just a tad late. But still wont shift at WOT, shift firmness is much better. The Bouchillon...
Bouchillon cable kit came in yesterday. I have to make a bracket to mount it and the Lokar throttle cable to the carb. Should be able to drive it this afternoon and see if this $325 experiment has any merit?
There are many ports on the right side of the trans. I have the pressure switches that control overdrive connected to the one that should be 1:1 with MPH as per the instructions from PATC, Marked as 4 in pic, and it works. Is that the line pressure port? And which one would be governor pressure?
I have tried to raise the rev limiter and see when it will shift on its own. Above 5000 rpm the engine starts to stumble and backfire. Ignition problem? Going lean? Dont like pushing it there until that is figured out.
Which makes no sense. My trans guy here in Phoenix does not know how to fix it. Seems to me that a lower rated governor should help. They sell them. But doing the cable thing first. Maybe they have stock in Bouchillon.
The trans was rebuilt last year by a reputable shop here in Phoenix. He does a lot heavy duty diesel trans work. He told me he put a lot of the heavy duty diesel parts in my 46RH along with a shift kit.
The problem from the get go is getting the trans to shift at WOT, both second and third...
Well, I have read that to keep a motor home engine alive it is best to keep it under 5000 RPM. True or false? So that is what I have been doing. Turning it up to 5800 or 6000 is what I am going to do if I decide to keep it in the car. Along with bringing the shift points/line pressure back up.
It is a 46RH overdrive. I had it rebuilt when I got the Hemi out. I actually called the guy who built it this morning asking if he can modify the shift points for me for that very reason. Line pressure is too low adjusted like this. Again, modifying the shift points is not really the fix I dont...
