    8-3/4 housing doesn't sit flat

I would measure the drop of the arch of the spring on both sides. Measure up from the spring center bolt up to the arch of the unibody arch. I know SS cars usually sat a little caddie wampus. But even with that said I would think the rear end would sit flush on both perches.

    Manual Steering Box

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you start changing manual ratios doesn't it get harder to steer at low speeds??

    Manual Steering Box

The straight 90w grease I got was for lower end units on the bigger outboard boat motors. It flows some, nothing like 80w90 but I can see it sticking to gears inside steering box.

    Manual Steering Box

I'd pop the plug and if it looks clean inside..no moisture infiltration and its not leaking at the seals. clean it up n reinstall. There is a method to tighten up feel , but get a FSM to outline proceedure. Its probably going to take straight 90W oil. Not gear oil straight 90. I got my oil at...

whats a good set of shocks

I was not either, sometimes I think I'm clear in what I say /write to others only to re-read what I wrote and realize I may have not been so clear as I originally thought. So for us younger guys, these Super 500s you talk about, were they really popular back in the day ? I do enjoy reading what...

whats a good set of shocks

I was not trying to reference the Super 500s that you posted about. I have never heard of them until I read your initial post. My intentions were to reference the original post about the common parts store "Blue " Monroe shocks . Just trying to help others that might go to their local parts...

whats a good set of shocks

I used those blue Monroe shocks once. I put them on in the fall one year, rode ok. parked the car for the winter. While I was prepping the car for spring noticed one of the shocks started leaking. Checked the other 3 sure enough none of them had any gas charge left in them. I had old oil...

Leaking compression fitting driving me nuts!

If the metal part of the line that goes into the gear box has a straight shoulder with a flare on top just before the nut, 9x out of 10 there is an o ring. If its just a flare fitting the fare might not be centered to the line itself(poor machining). Take the line off and post a pic of the tube end

    Front end thump

Oh no I have the feeling you are super picky about stuff such as I. I sometimes wonder about parts the last moog upper control arm bushings I installed were not US made, even if they were US made are they Friday or Monday bushings?? That the outer shell is slipping ever so slightly, or the...

    Front end thump

Could it be the pressed in bushings are loose in the control arms ? Maybe put a witness mark on the bushing and control arm and have someone push on the car to see if the bushing isn't rotating in the control ams

    Front end suspension adjustment

When I had my manual box rebuilt, the company replaced the main sector with a replacement. The replacement did not have a master spline. No biggie, I put my pitman arm on, and cycled it full lock both ways a couple of times, the found mid point. Once I did this, I pulled out the trusty dremel...

    Front end suspension adjustment

Sorry about my misunderstanding, I remember reading about lower bushings being loose, I took that as meaning the rubber was deteriorated in the shell itself. Like I believe Miller said measure the center to center of the uca and compare old to new, I wonder if the lengths are off. Thus giving...

    Front end suspension adjustment

You've mentioned the lca bushings are worn out. Even though you have measured the movement and such, once the car is actually down on the ground, it's going to load that worn out lca bushing quite a bit. Now is it enough to cause you probs with the upper control arms , it might to your extent...

    Shocking News

Stay away from the blue Monroe shocks, there is a reason why they are super cheap. Total waste of money inmho. I personally put them on a car one fall in preparation for the upcoming year. Part of my spring prep I jacked the car up and 3 of the shocks were bad. 2 visibly had fluid leaking out...

    '62 (and '63, '64?) parking brake cables

You mention yours are crusty and rusty. In th U.S. we have evapo rust. I've used it with success on just about every kind of metal. Now will the cable look shiney brand new....no depending how long you leave it soak, the galvanizing should still be there. You just need to check on the part every...

    Brake Bleeding Issues

What I do with stainless steel lines is on the back side of the flare where the nut makes contact, I put a small dab of anti sieze on it, and spin the nut so it gets spread out. Wipe off any that weeps out towards sealing surface. Install as usual. What I find is the antisieze is a lubricant...

    Odd Handling Issue

Like others have mentioned check the valve on top of the steering box. If the fluid has been in the system forever , I'd flush the p.s. and fill will new fluid. It could be there is some junk floating around and it gets stuck in the centering valve and breaks free only to get stuck again...

Best front shocks to have the front up high

Gonna have to crankup the torsion bars to get the height you want/ need for the tire clearance, shocks really donthave that much to do with it other than to dampen the bumps in the road
