Don't take this the wrong way, but....good luck. I had about eighteen tubes of JB Weld holding the bottom of my '72s tank together (brilliant design, putting it BEHIND the drive tire so every piece of road debris can TONK off the bottom and fill it with pinholes....). One day, about 10 years...
I like the square ones (earlier), but really like the 'jellybeans' from '71-74 - especially '71/72.
Which is odd, because I really DON'T like the '71-up Chargers. The more I look at my '70 the more I'm seeing the progression into the '71s...but they just aren't my thing for some reason. I...
I vote blue for the top. Subtle, different. Maybe a gator grain or a snake grain for some extra character? I'd also pass on the graphics on the quarter - keep it clean.
Nice looking Satellite.
I prefer electrical; no fluids in the cabin. Gauges are a baseline reference anyway - install, note typical "normal", then if things change....you look for problems.
Those taillights (and rear bumper) were '72 Satellite/RR coupe only, with or without the rubber strips.
The '71 Sat/RR coupe rear bumper/lights were different:
IF you have to graft 2G parts onto a 3G Charger...I'd use the hoop '70 front bumper, which would carry into that hoop rear bumper...and use '70 taillights.
And put the fuel filler behind the license plate. I love the flip-top...but in the right place!
Grocery getter ('72 Satellite Custom wagon) at the grocery store yesterday.
...she got me home, too! First time more than a half mile from home, in about a dozen years. Felt GOOD!!
Is there a source for this stuff anywhere? I have sagging panels and one missing panel (I want to say there are four, full-width panels, front to back). It's off-white with holes in it and I think some darker polka-dot things on it; I'd have to check to be sure.
Just curious if anyone makes...
Pretty sure that's where I have it but I'll verify tonight. Thanks. What's the ball-end connector in the photo? Is that kickdown for that vehicle? Mine's the slot-over-pin style...
Not my car, but...
The red circle is the end of the throttle cable; it attaches to a pin I have installed in the green circle. That pulls the fitting too far from the clamp (yellow circle). Photo is a BB car; mine's an LA 360; but the brackets are the same.
So, used to be stuff like this didn't bother me but now I prefer to do things right.
My wagon was originally a 318/2 car, and has the original throttle cable.
Currently it's a 360/4, Edelbrock intake and carburetor.
I've got the throttle hooked to the carb OK, using the Chrysler adaptor...
We won't get into how long (or how MUCH, ugh)...but I did it. Finally. Been bugging the tank folks at Carlisle for nearly a decade about making them...even offered mine as a template. No go.
I'm trying to figure out a shield setup that will block stones and crap, but won't add to rotting the...
Fair enough.
I just assume have all the grounds in place. Worst case, if your car is missing the strap and you aren't doing a concours restore...get a piece of household copper conductor and 2 hose clamps.
I just did a tank replacement in my '72 wagon - gotta have that strap! The tank "grounds" through the retaining straps, but the pickup/sending unit is isolated from the metal tank by its rubber/plastic gasket. One end of my strap is long-gone (one of the clips), so I have it attached to the...
NO DRIPS!
Checked it this morning before work, zero stains on the cardboard and NO fuel smell in the shop. YAY!!!
(I know....baby steps though...I've had this car for ages, and want to take my time and get it right putting it back on the road...)
Well new cap came in at local AutoStoned. Deeper. Worried maybe too deep, but...nope. Works perfect! Tank has about 2 gal in it, no leaks yet (fingers crossed - they're a stupid damn design with a seam right down the center of the bottom), and I have it running off the tank now.
Next step...
Here's the original tank
You can see the shallow curled lip. New tank:
That curled lip goes much deeper in from the seal surface.
I never even thought there could be more than one cap style, at least not before everything switched to the current plastic ones.
