Roll the motor upside down if possible and use compressed air at different access points to dislodge it . Once its flopping around in there a bit, fish it out.
As Builderguy posted earlier "cam lobes get moly lube", I have often wondered that when pre priming the oil lube system long enough to see oil at the rocker arms, is that enough to wash the lube off the lifter lobe? Could that be detrimental to some lobes at start up.
I bought a transmission that looked to be in similar condition as that one, been sitting out in the weather for who knows how long. Pulled the pan off and the fluid had jelled. It had strings of jelled fluid blobs hanging down from the valve body. Got a clean paint brush and cleaned off every...
My tranny rebuilder guy still uses dry cork gaskets on his rebuilds. In the 10 to 12 units of his I have installed, and still have some, I have had no pan leaks from his work. He states both metal surfaces need to be clean, dry and not over tighten .
I just put that same shifter and new handle in my 73 from Brewers and it made a world of difference. I assume my current shifter with slide in handle was worn way more than it looked. I may have the old one rebuilt just to see difference in the way the two different designs work. You will know...
Thanks John M, in my opinion, all the parts you named are the basic minimum parts to replace in a complete teardown. When I do get it apart I am not sure I can accurately determine how much wear on the slider is acceptable or too much wear, unless it is quite obvious. Just thought those with...
Guys, got my used A833 installed and just began putting some miles on it. Ok, the problems, its quite noisy in 2nd and 3rd gear, and much quieter in 4th. I think that would be cured with new bearings. Ok, it will shift into 2nd, but pops out if not held in. I just swapped in a new Compation Plus...
Ok, y'all clarify for us, if an engine DID come with the an insulated pad, did it have for sure both front and/or a rear 'hold in place' sheetmetal shield .
There is spring pressure pulling the two points together in the pic above. Took her out for a nice long run and it shifted just fine as normal before. I am guessing I lost the spring a few months ago and the hesitant shift from 2nd to 3rd was the result. Just did not occur to me to look there...
Ok, when I removed the breather, the small spring was gone, vamoose, nada, not even any broken pieces. I installed a small spring I had and made a slight adjustment as best I understood the steps in the manual. Gonna make a run to see if this was the fix needed as soon as it dries out a bit...
No work or anything has been done to the trans. Engine was pulled and gone thru about five years ago and everything put back original. Fluid was changed then in the tranny and everything worked as it should. Car has been sitting much and I noticed this first about the beginning of summer. I am...
Guys, my original 318/ 904 , 43k miles, has begun to hesitate in the 2 to 3 shift. Rpms will pickup in 2nd and hold for a bit and if I kinda pat the throttle I can coax a final shift to 3rd. Car does sit a lot and just now started doing that. Pretty sure the trans has never been rebuilt and I am...
As a youngster to Mopars, I was unaware of the two piece insulation pads on the factory big blocks vally pan. In looking at the repop ad , I am wondering why it needed to be two separate pieces....was it because the different manifolds dictated two pieces. The two cast iron ones I installed...
When I installed a 70 model tranny, shifter and rods from an E body into my 73 b body I had quite a few issues. Brewers web site provided much info as to what I needed and Dan himself was very helpful in quickly isolating my problems and providing me with the solution. I highly recommend him...
Most every old block I pull the two bottom block cooling plugs out are completely plugged up with "gunk". Most are pretty hard and I bet it is mostly from left in sand from casting. Any v 8 I change coolant in I pull those plugs and flush out the block thoroughly . I find very little crud in...
I recently installed a A833 that was pulled and had been sitting since the late seventies. My 'slow leak" turned out to be the reverse switch itself. I guess the metal case to plastic switch seal deteriorated over time allowing the warm lube to come thru it. New switch was the cure.
