I've been mulling over cam choices for my 383 as well and like the OP and I are after the same result.
Bill, if you don't mind can I ask what it is you like about your recommend cam? Not being critical, just trying to get a little more info. It sounds like Don is referring to the same one you...
You got yours? Oh...so you're the one, heh.
All kidding aside, I don't think anyone ever questioned the quality or performance of the product, it's the delivery time frame that is bothersome. Furthermore, extended initial delivery time would have me worried if something goes wrong and I...
For the record, I agree with everything you said here.
The fact that you reference a 4 speed car I can see why you feel so strongly about the Dana...I would too.
As @moparnation74 and @1967coronet440 have already said...call Cass over at Dr. Diff. Tell him your plans and your budget and he'll...
But the OP said he priced it out and with his labor it's going be around $800. A full Dana that has been suggested starts at around $2300 and is closer to $3000 when it is all said and done. Even using your figure...$3000>$1200...it's more than double the price. Since we both agree that a...
You can't hog tie a debate rebuttal like that because it fits your agenda...it's overkill BECAUSE of the cost. For what the OP is trying accomplish a well built 8 3/4 is sufficient. There plenty of people out there running similar setups as the one the OP is trying planning and have no issues...
I see what you're saying and agree.
My main concern will be launches at the track. While damage can definitely still occur on the street, the tires will break loose to long before to help soften the stress.
I've seen the weld on braces available, how do they hold up?
The only reason I'd switch before going too crazy on modifications is someone once told me, "You can do all that and spend your money on a 8 3/4 that MIGHT live...or you can just spend it on a Dana and forget about it."
Realistically right now and in the near future my car isn't going to be...
Sorry, thought I put that in the original post. It's an automatic. While not quite as much drive shock as a 4-speed I just wanted to see what others have experienced especially with launches on slicks.
What would you consider wasted money on internals? I've looked into bracing and housing...
I'm looking at different options for my 8 3/4 rear end. It will mainly be a street car/Saturday night special, but I also plan to take to the track from time to time. While at the track I plan to get a set of Hoosier 28/9-15 slicks to get the most traction. On the street I'll be running...
My car currently has 2.94 open diff in a 742 housing. This off season I was hoping to swap it out for something a little a taller for a little more "umph" off the line.
There is a local guy who has an open 3.91 in a 741 housing that I'd be able to get my hands on pretty cheap and was thinking...
