    I open the hinge up and slide a deep socket in one end, maybe 9/16 in it to hold it open. After it is all assembled you open the spring a little and the socket rolls out.

    Galvanized carriage bolt are under tolerance to allow for the coating so if you blast them the nuts will fit different.

    I used a stainless carriage turned down in a lathe.

    Break the speed nut off with a pick and needle nose pliers and to install a new one tap it on with a socket. They were to keep the spacers from falling off on the assembly line.
