It would be nice if it was just low coolant. I’m sure you know, but Mopars like to have a couple inches of air space below the filler neck, but I get nervous when I open the radiator and see no coolant at all.
I mentioned this a couple pages ago, and it was met with a “airflow is it the problem at highway speeds” speech. The idea that highway speeds Ram air through the radiator is not completely correct. The radiator support is an air dam, and trapping the air in front of it by having the upper and...
Shroud in place? Hood to radiator support seal in place? Lower splash pan to radiator support seal in place? Without those seals, air can just go around the radiator opening, it’s like sucking through a straw with a hole in it. The idea is to trap air in front of the radiator, and use a conical...
And, of course the answer here is air flow, not coolant flow. The whole system depends on the amount of air flow the radiator receives, and how to manage the air flow through the radiator. That’s why a shroud and a puller fan is vital to the coolant being cooled. A proper shroud and clutch fan...
In the commonly found 6pak tuning guide, it states to run a 195 thermostat, and 195 only. My car came stock with a 195, so that’s what I run. And, I can’t argue with its performance, or the fact that it stays at 195 all day long!
It’s because of the common misconception that a lower temp thermostat causes the car to run at that temperature. Nothing could be further from the truth. As stated above, once the thermostat opens, it’s job is done, it is only to allow the coolant to heat up quicker to get heat to the cab to...
So, on a related note, what is everybody doing about the smaller heater hose? The 9/16” hose doesn’t seem to be available, and the 5/8” hose drips on my car at the heater box nipples. I’ve been living with that all summer, but would like to cure it once and for all.
