My 75 Fury Sport has a Lot of chrome (aluminum) trim with black accents. Can anyone recommend a paint with the accurate color that will work with this application?

    Restoring wheel well trim

I have some wheel well trim that I'd like to get restored. They are not bad...just a few dings that need to be straightened and the typical faded/tarnished appearance that needs to be refreshed. I found one guy who did this online but he wanted $550 for the set of four which I thought...

    Wheel Opening Blackout

I've always heard that black painted wheel wells are an old trick flippers use to hide problems. I'd be worried about it.

    just say no .....

Sandophobia - fear of prep work. Its a real disease that afflicts body shop owners and techs everywhere. Its caused by body shops doing nothing by insurance work that only requires replacing parts and spraying.

    Bodyshop diseases

In getting estimates for my car's paint job, I've documented the following diseases that often afflict body shop owners and techs. If you spot any symptoms of this disease, RUN! 1. Sandophobia - fear of doing any kind of prep work. This is caused by doing too much insurance claim work that...

in Bodyshop...waiting. Should I cut bait and run?

My last experience cost me more than a slap - I ended up going court to get a judgement, then searching to find out where the guy worked, garnishing his wages, etc...never got all my money back because he quit and we could never find him again. Not sure I want to risk going thru that again.

in Bodyshop...waiting. Should I cut bait and run?

I went to yet another highly regarded shop that has done a lot of old cars, and their estimate was double what the first guy had provided. And this time they didn't even right up a proper estimate, just scribbled a total price on the back of a card. I guess I'm going to have to start watching...

in Bodyshop...waiting. Should I cut bait and run?

Yes it is, and I get pretty ticked when these body guys try to make it out to be a total wreck when they do their estimates.

in Bodyshop...waiting. Should I cut bait and run?

That's great, and I'm glad it worked out for you. But in the past I've had situations where the guy was so lazy, he took the money I paid up front and decided it was better to take that and run, instead of doing the rest of the work and get the balance. In your case he had a wife that kept him...

Isn't it interesting how inconsistent they can be? First experience was great, second was totally opposite. You never know what these guys are going to do.

He didn't care. He said I could get some PB buster and remove the bumpers myself...don't know why his body techs couldn't do the same thing. Tossed me the keys and said "bring it back after labor day". I guess things slow down for them after then.

I did. Got no response from him. Guess he wasn't interested. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Pulled the car out of the shop yesterday. Now it sits. Lonely. Stripped. And unpainted.

in Bodyshop...waiting. Should I cut bait and run?

Update: So its been in the shop two weeks now, and from what I can tell from my clandestine drive bys the car is still sitting in the yard untouched. I called with a friendly "how's it going" call yesterday and he immediately got defensive, and stated that they tried to get the bumpers off and...

in Bodyshop...waiting. Should I cut bait and run?

It will leak around the side windows in a car wash..and I've seen a little water in the trunk after a heavy rain. I took the vinyl top off and most of the trim around the roof, doors, and windows. I have not observed significant leaking but again i do keep it garaged, so I'm not sure. We are...

in Bodyshop...waiting. Should I cut bait and run?

So I set an appointment with a local body shop to bring my car in to start painting it. The car needs minor finishing on the quarter panels and I already detrimmed 90 percent of it. I setup the appointment 10 days in advance to bring it in. This was a few weeks after they did a thorough...
