    5 Speed Swap- Ratio ?

That's tough for me to answer because I am not skilled enough to know what "good" engagement is and it somewhat subjective. I have not driven a ton of different manual cars so I don't know what to compare it too. When normally driving in stop and go traffic, I do have to ride it somewhat but I...

    5 Speed Swap- Ratio ?

I have a 340 with the 5 speed TKO 600 (3.55 gears like you want) and I believe I have the close ratio transmission. My ratios are almost identical at 2.87, 1.89 , 1.28 , 1.00 , 0.64 (slightly different than the 0.68) but I am running 1900 RPM at 70 mph and right at 2000 rpm at 75 mph I can be at...

Build a seized 360 or buy and build a 440

Dollar for dollar you will likely get more power out of a 440 but you have to take other things into account like the transmission, driveshaft, etc. You can build a really nice stout 408 stroker that will easily give you 450-475 hp and more than 500 ft lbs of tq on a decent budget and it will...

    No exhaust coming out!

It almost sounds like your driver's side has no compression. I am not very experienced in this area but could valves be stuck open?

Transmission Cooler Lines With Headers Question - 340

Mike, thank you! I had the tool the whole time and I got it out with ease. Never even crossed my mind. I was going to use a -6AN fitting instead of the 3 since that seemed small. Do you think I should go smaller?

Transmission Cooler Lines With Headers Question - 340

Hi everyone, I am in the final stages of my restoration and have run into a bit of a snag... well several snags. I have a 1972 Roadrunner 340/727 with Doug Headers and my factory hard lines no longer work. That's my first issue. My first solutions was to remove all of the fittings in the...

1.5 or 1.6 ratio on new RPM heads?

I am not sure if the big blocks suffer from this but on my 340 small block, I had to machine out the push rod holes on my rpm heads when I went to my 1.6 rockers as they wouldn't clear the sides due to the change in angle. just something to keep in mind.

intake manifold fittings and where to buy them - 340 small block

Hi all, I am putting the last pieces of my 340 together and noticed I do not have all my intake fittings for my rpm air gap. I tried searching online and am not coming up with much. Maybe because I am not wording it right in the search? There are 4 ports on it and I think I have 2 figured out...

HELP! How to adjust water pump belt tension with Power Steering?

On my 340, you very slightly loosen the 2 bolts on the power steering bracket and there should be a square hole in the bracket itself where you can insert a half inch socket wrench into the bracket and pull tension on the power steering pump. I would think it's the same for a 318 but I could be...

Dipstick tube question small block 340

It was an old one broken off in there. Thank you all for your help and a special thanks to Justin for calling me and helping me through the process of getting it out. A screw extractor took it right out and the new one is in!

Dipstick tube question small block 340

I am trying without success to get my dipstick tube back into the block. I bought this block bare so I didn't think to check the tube hole to see if the old one had broken off in there. I am not sure what it's supposed to look like so I am asking if it looks like the old one is broken off in the...

Dumb question about small block balancer.

You were right. I noticed that in the picture myself as posted it. I pulled it off and put it in the oven for 15 minutes and it slid right on. I did that the other night but it was hot outside too so it didn't help much. It's 40 in the garage and now this is much hotter so it helped. Thanks so...

Dumb question about small block balancer.

I am installing my harmonic balancer and I am not sure how to know if the harmonic balancer is all the way in. I don't think it is judging by feel (meaning not a huge amount of bolt revolutions) and my picture but I am at a point now where I am turning the crank. If not would you guys recommend...

    340 vs 360?

The engines are very similar, even when stroked (408 vs 416) and if your not worried about being time period correct with your engine, I would personally recommend the 360(mainly because you already own it). Parts wise they are going to cost the same to rebuild and chances are, your are going to...

    8 3/4 rebuild

That seems really high to me. I just had my rear end (sure grip) completely rebuilt with new 3.55 (changed from 3.23) gears, new strange axle bearings, new yolk, all new seals for $1000 tax included. If I had reused my gears it would have been even less. do you need a lot of internals replaced?

    Fake/Foam 360 Engine Block for test-fitting

This might be a dumb idea but you might be able to find a bare 360 block for the same price or cheaper on CL? It may not fit your needs but just an idea.
