So, I'm looking ahead to 2024 and have decided to shelve the idea of putting a 400/440 in the SSP cuz too many other things need to be changed out for a SB-BB swap. I'm thinking stroking the 360LA that's in it will give me what I'm looking for: a lower rpm, stump puller type 408, budget street...
The '72 340 I bought for the '73 Satellite was torn down and found to have significant scoring in the bores due to it sitting around for years. Condensation took that puppy down.
So, my mechanic buddy has an LA 360 block and crank that's been sitting in an oiled bag since 2010. Bored .030 over...
Engine bought last summer, just fired up yesterday. Only 5 inches of vacuum at idle. :(
What I know:
'72 block
steel crank
new pistons and rods, shiny walls (as seen through boroscope)
'72 360 heads, valves opened to 2.02 intake
Mopar purple shaft cam. Unknown specs.
New MP distributor...

Swapping out the original 318. The car will be street driven only. I have available to me...
I've gone around the horn, from a 408 stroker to a built 360 to a stock 340 and back to the 408. A hard look in the mirror says a $$ engine build doesn't have the value for me. I've had my fun with two HP 440s, I'm gonna dial it way back and...go the poor man's route on the 318 in the car...
Please provide your camshaft recommendations.
Going in to my '73 SSP. LA block, Hughes LA style Indy X heads, Edelbrock Performer 318/360 intake, 1970 340 HP exh manifolds. I have a Carter 750cfm AVS carb that I'd like to use. Need enough vacuum for PS, PB. Looking for a mild performer around...
I want to put a stock appearing, SB street engine in my '73 Satellite Sebring Plus (318 now). Max HP is not the goal, but torque below 2500RPM is. It will be a cruiser, never seeing strip time (below 4500 RPM). The issue is parts availability versus budget.
Rationalization: don't need aluminum...
