I am wondering what torque converter (diameter and particularly the stall speed) that may have came from the factory in my car.
The car is:
1970 Plymouth Sport Satellite
318 originally
904A
273 peg leg originally
Single exhaust
(How did they get away with calking it a “sport” lol?)
I assume...
What type of manual transmission and bell housing was used for small blocks in a 70 bbody? Would a 340 bell housing work with a 833 transmission? Was there a difference in transmission’s for sb and bb? Meaning was there an 833 for bb and a different one for sb?
So I have read threads here and other sites regarding the value of the PCV system BUT I am not convinced or don’t fully understand the value for me in my application.
Caveat, the environmental factors are not a consideration here.
It seems the main value proposition of the PCV is that it aids...
Ok this is opposite of a 426 issue in that its for my 50cc scooter. But hey it’s an engine right?
Not apparently burning oil in that no smoke in the exhaust is noticeable.
Issue.
Keep fouling my plug. I have a single 28mm cv carb that I’ve adjusted and think isn’t too rich (like me). Still...
Still trying to increase hood clearance and running into issue after issue. I currently have a spacer so that I can have a “proper” PVC connection from the valve cover to my manifold vacuum crankcase.
If I need to cant I just vent this through a check valve to ambient atmospheric without any...
So I need to use a drip base air cleaner for hood clearance. Welp the throttle linkage hits the base (see pic). I kinda expected this and am wondering what you guys do to implement a drop base air cleaner like this.
At some point I need to lower my compression ratio as well as re-cam my motor. Was wondering if cutting pistons (as opposed to buying a bee set) was cost effective given shop time and possible questionable results!?!
Whats your opinion? I KNOW you have one
So at times I have received recommendations on getting a tight and loose converter for say the same stall range. How does one specify a tight or loose? For example: Can I get a tight 3000-3800 TC and a loose 3000-3800 TC? What makes a TC loose vs tight?
I have to kill my car (automatic) in gear lest I get dieseling. Wondering what might be causing this. I know its prevalent in high perf motors and I assume its due to high compression. If it is the high compression what is the mechanism that causes it? Is it just temperature and pressure?
Why...
It was very difficult to remove my old grommets on my 1970 small block valve covers. They were very hard and brittle. They weren’t rubber thats for sure.
Does anyone know where to get replacement grommets for this application?
This might seem to be one of those questions but I am going to ask anyway. Caveats:
1. I understand the length of the DS is dependent on the tube in which it sits.
2. I understand that when setting up a motor part of it includes correctly setting up the pan, the pump pick up and dip stick...
Was wondering two things if I wanted to convert to a 4 speed:
1. what manual transmissions are readily available (including overdrive)? I hear stock 4 speeds are difficult to find.
2. what else will I need?
Bell housing/inspection plate
Flywheel
Z bar and brackets
Shifter...
Hi, I have a simple question regarding AFR curve vs RPM’s. Does AFR typically read 5-7 points high (leaner) at idle than at cruise or acceleration?
If my AFR is accurate and it may not be especially at idle I am reading 22 at Idle and 14.5 under acceleration or cruise ie higher rpms.
I don’t...
When I drop a distributor in an engine I have the rotor point to cylinder one. But this is just a custom for uniformity of wire location right? As long as the order of the wires is correct and in alignment of the rotor it does not mater which direction the rotor points. Correct?
Hey guys how ya doin? Now that you gave your honey her valentines gift and dinner its time to get back to reality lol.
I have two questions:
1. What variables can I use in cam shaft selection that can help soften the effects of detonation in high compression motor?
2. If I am running a 12:1...
