    When did they start putting VINs on blocks?

    I am trying to find out when the practice of putting a VIN or partial VIN on the engine block started. The only info I have found on this is below(from moparts.org) "On 1968 and later engines the numbers stamped on the lower rail of the engines right (passenger) side match the last 8 digits...
