What is the proper torque for the pinion nut on an 8 3/4 rear end with the 741carrier? It said 40 ft-lb in one reference book and it seems to me that it should be closer to 240 ft-lbs.
I've seen both one piece pinion thrust spacers and 3-piece ones. Does it matter which I use in my 741 housing with clutch type sure grip? I don't have green bearings.
Has anyone installed a Lokar kick down cable on a Thermoquad carb? Since the Lokar works backward compared to the normal kick down some modifications have to be made to the carb.
Is there a kit for that? How about if I switch to a Holly double pumper?

My car has 255/60/15's on it and a 3.55 posi rear end. I put a 34 tooth speedometer gear in the 727 but it appears that the speedometer reads 8 to 10 mph fast at 50 mph. Anyone have any idea what's wrong? Everything I've seen says that 34 is the correct gear.
Does anyone have a picture of the kick down linkage and/or a description of the proper way to adjust it for a 440 with the newer style (73 and up) 727? The newer style only uses 2 rods and one pivot while the older uses 3 rods and 2 pivots.
Has anyone replaced the rear main seal on a 440 with the engine still in the car? Is it possible and are there any tricks I need to know before attempting it?
I just fire up my 440 after a rebuild. Bored .030, cam& lifters, new bearings, new high volume oil pump, new water pump etc. Initially I had 75 psi oil pressure. after the engine warmed up it would not hold 20 psi at idle and only went up to about 30 at 2000 rpm. Any ideas on what the problem...

I have a torque converter that is about 1 inch small than standard, 11 inch diameter versus 12 in. Does anyone know what stall speed that would indicate or is there some way to determine it without it being in my car? I'm hoping that is somewhere around 2000. Knowing what it is will help me...

I think I knew the answer to this at one time but now I guess I'm old and senile. I have a 3.55 ring and pinion from a 741 case. Can they be used in a 742 or 489 case? Is there a difference in the ring and pinion between the open and posi units?
