Hey there - I have a 1965 Coronet with a stock gas gauge that always shows past full as far as the needle will go. When ignition is off the needle sits on E but when ignition is turned on, the needle sweeps up, pulses a bit and pegs past full and stays there (looks more like a blood pressure gauge). I have a fuel cell with a tube type sending unit with a float (I removed it and the float is moving freely within the housing). I’m wondering if it’s an issue with differing ohm specs on gauge and sending unit?

What is the ohm range on a stock gas gauge?

What does the gauge do with the sending unit unplugged? The range is 10-73 ohms pegging past full points to less than 10 ohms and potentially that means the wire is shorted to ground...
