I have a '07 4.7 Durango that's been making a squealing noise that's been driving me crazy trying to figure out what is. Wondering if anybody has had the same problems.
It sounds like a squealing belt, first thought it was the belt so I installed a belt. Replaced tensioner and idler pulleys while the belt was off. That didn't stop the noise, but slowed it down. Meaning that it only squeals off idle and at highway speeds. Soon as it comes back to idle the squeal stops. I swapped alternators and that did nothing.
Thinking maybe the fan clutch might be making the noise? It wont make the noise while its cool, once warm the squeal comes back. Fan clutch doesn't seem like it's locked up because the fan isn't making a bunch of noise all the time. Will they make a squeal noise if they are bad?
I've used a stethoscope on everything that spins on the engine (except for fan clutch) and still cant seem to pin point it.
Anybody have some pointers, input?
Thanks!
Reed
