My 74 Charger non SE has the 1/4 window stainless molding. It looks like there is two different type finishes on mine. I have looked for a replacement for mine. When I have found some they look like they have different finishes and different colors but they all have the same part # 3680976/7. Why are there so many different finishes? How does someone know which is the correct one for their car? And are the different finishes painted on?

I've found that when restoring these cars especially the later b bodies, there are a lot of wrong repro parts out there. I'm pretty sure that window piece you are talking about is aluminum rather than stainless and the painted part of it should be an argent silver color. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I've got a 73 non se unrestored car and that's what it has

Were these ever reproduced? He is talking about the boomerang shaped piece but I don't know if they are stainless or aluminum. Maybe there was a running change? If there is discoloration I would lean more towards aluminum. In any case, we are talking about parts that are nearly 45 years old - you are going to see some variation based on where they have been all that time. You might want to look for a pair from the same car, or try your hand at buffing out what you have and see if they are a closer match after you knock the oxidation down.

They are anodized aluminum, but the painted portion is what I think is in question here

Correct. I found one at a junk yard and went to clean it up. This is the drivers side. The outboard edge polished up nice and shinny. The indoard large wide edge cleaned up but would not polish out. Googled the part # and found a few but the inboard edge were different colors including black.

As far as I know those inboard edges are all supposed to be silver. .if you see different colors, then those have been painted that way on purpose for whatever reason
