12410 long or 12410a short ?

My trans has the old single stud for a neutral safety switch. I need to change it out to work with the 3 pin type harness. I'm told there is a 12410 long, and a 12410a short. Anyone know how to tell which you need, without trial & error ?

Thanks. I just spoke with The man i bought the new harnesses from. Apparently i'm better off changing the harness.

You could also just utilize the middle wire on the existing harness or simply run a single wire from the neutral safety switch to the starter relay and put the ends on yourself. That is unless you are going for the OEM look.
