Hi all

I will buying some Centerline Autodrag for my 68 Charger soon, but I can’t decide between 15 x 8 and 15 x 10 on the rear

The 15 x 8 is 4.25” backspacing

The 15 x 10 is 5” backspacing

I know on the 15 x 8 I’d probably go with 275/60/15 but what tire option do I have if I went with the 15 x 10 without rubbing problems

Ideally I don’t want to do any mods

Am I right in thinking the 15 x 10 has a deeper dish look to it compared to a 15 x 8 ?

Many thanks

15”x8”…I sold my 15”x10” because of clearance problems. The 15”x8” still needed fender well modifications

15x10 will need a 5-1/2" back spacing. I run 15x8 with 295's on 5 different sets of wheels and tires that I swap around from car to car.

Thanks , what BS on the wheels ?

The 295’s fit on the 15 x 8 ok ? A few people have told me they’re too wide for an 8 wheel ?

The thing is I don’t really like the 295/50 as they are too short , i prefer the rear to be slightly raised a little

I think I’d have to go 295/55 mickey Thompson as they are the same 28” height approx as the 275/60

The 295 mickeys are a drag radial, but you knew that right?
I have 10.5x28 slicks on an 8.5 centerline and they fit fine. AND, they are the exact same size as a 295/55x15.
I would absolutely go with the 15x8. The extra width of the ten, and the tire it requires will give problems for no particular gain, ESPECIALLY if you don't want to do any mods.
Wanna fill the wheelwell, and want some height? 255/70x15 on a 15x8.

Also, don't know what tires are available in London, but Cooper cobras are a better tire than t/a radials, ....and about 50 bucks (40£?) cheaper per tire.

Thanks yeah I know drag radial the 295/55

It’s a shame they don’t do a 295/60

Yeah I noticed that , a lot of people seem to be running those Galaxy RWL now too but not sure what they are like

On another note a few times on forums etc I’ve heard people say different brands of the same size tire can vary in width , any truth in that ?

Eg a 295/50/15 BFG is wider than a 295/50/15 Cooper Cobra

Surely a 295 is a 295 ?

I’ll try and find one of the threads I saw

THEORETICALLY yes, a 295 is a 295.
But yes there can be a variance in section width (the 295) and in tread width, depending on manufacturer.Tread is the most likely to vary.
I guess it depends on wheather it's a performance tire, or an suv tire.
Personally, I would expect a white letter tire to be on the wide end of the scale.
(But maybe not so with a chinese white letter).

Mickey does make a 295/65x15. ET Street SS. Nice tire.
I've got a 315/60x15 on another car, the et street pro. Great tire. It could maybe be used on a 2nd gen charger, but it might take quite a bit of work!

Yeah did some measurements for those but 30” tall and 7.5” sidewall they would most likely rub on the fender in front of the rear tire

This is the gap in the pic below I have with the 275’s, a 295/65 would be an extra inch sidewall on top of that so it would be right against that fender unfortunately

Sure looks that way.
There are ways to move the rearend back a bit. My rear in my 62 savoy is moved back one inch, for tall tire clearance.
And, to center the tire in the opening much better.

I have wheels either 4-1/4" to 4-1/2" back spacing. Some of the wheels on my cars. I don't like the old school jacked up look anymore.

Nice cars , and they are all 295’s on 15 x 8 ? they look like they fit ok and not too bulgy

Anyone have experience with the Mickey Thompson drag radials , I saw a few people say they are difficult to balance at the tire shop ?

Yes, all previously pictured are 295's on 15x8 wheels.

I also have 315 drag radials on my other blue Challenger. They work, and are very sticky. Just the warmth while driving down the road, while I was changing lanes and crossed over the white line in the road and peeled it right up off the road. My brother was following behind me in another one of my cars. He told me what he saw. Sure enough, I looked at my right rear tire and it still had a partial 6" wide white stripe on it.
