Hi I have been searching this site for correct back space and offset for 17 and 18" wheels and finding so many conflicting posts. can you help me out and post what wheel size you guys are running without mods to your car to make them fit.
What i'm looking for..
rim size 17 or 18"
back space and or offset
and tire size your running
thanks for your help

17” cast aluminum magnum 500s, 8” on front, 9” on rear and 5 1/8” back space. 305/45r17 Mickey Thompson et street 28.1” tall on rear. I have a 67 Charger, not cut or mini-tubbed. Stock location for now but likely to change- I have 1/4”-3/16” clearance (I avoid mud racing!)

These fit, but just barely. The height issue is the main problem with 66/67 chargers. I wanted a tall tire but the front wheel well is tight. Dana 60 going in soon and will be pushed back.

For 17” rims it’s really hard to find any tire that tall of any manufacturer.

I highly recommend selecting a tire and then the rim. Looks like you have a 68 up, so you’ll have more room and options.

That rear needs to come back at least 1 inch! I foresee tire and or quarter panel damage in your future.

I run 9" wide, 17" diameter 5" backspace (exactly the way they come) Year One aluminum Rallye wheels. Bone stock suspension other than racing shocks that have no effect on fit.
They allow me to run fantastic Toyo Proxes TQ drag radials 315/35/17s and they NEVER rub, are perfectly centered, grab the track and street WAY better than BF Goodrich T/A radials, and look beautiful.

I am going to see if M&H Racemaster 325/45/17s will fit, just because.

Resurrecting the thread

Is that a common practice to relocate the rear end? Looking at your picture is the first time I've noticed that. I would definitely want to do that as I tend to be a bit obsessive about things being balanced. Hence my tough time trying to figure out this car.

BTW, what was your final wheel/tire setup after relocating rear, what changes did you make to for the relocation, and do you have a good side shot of the after?

Sorry for the the long delay, haven’t been on for a while. The d60 caused problems, different length drive shaft and bangs the stock gas tank. My car is basically stock, so I put the 8 3/4 back in and removed the 1/4” alum shims at the front shackles so it’s stock again.

Big issue with Gen 1 chargers is the front spacing of the rear tire. A wide tire, 295, is doable but there is precious little room, 28” tall is basically the max without doing something. 1/8” clearance the front, 3-4” behind the wheel. So for drag cars it’s pretty normal to radiance the wheel well, or mini-tub and tuck the tires in, or push the axle back, or some combo. I generally skew stock too, except for racing and I had put this car down the track one season. But it’s nearly 4000lbs, a stick, and a driver, so it’s not great on the track (FUN! But not great for it).

Pics are stock location, but the tires are 25.5” tall on the rear and reasonably wide at 285. More options on 15” rims, these are 17”.
