1958 Dodge Coronet

Got a rust free trunk floor from John Fowlie of Big M Automotive for our '58 Coronet over the weekend.

He said it was cut out of a rust free '57 D500 that was unfortunately parted out years ago.
Looks like the quarters were cut off first, so I have a few inches to make up on the back sides.

It has the frame mounts, gas tank mounts, and rear double floor section I didn't want to attempt to fabricate, as I wasn't sure exactly what it looked like.

It will be nice to have a floor I can't step through and sever an artery.

After a 3.5 hrs drive, as I was pulling into the parking lot my rpm gauge went way high, it was idling at 3k and would go up from there.

It also smelled like burnt gear oil, I thought, as I just went through the rear on the truck.

Then I realized it was a rotten egg smell. Popped the hood, voltage regulator quit, battery boiling over.

I watch all the gauges like a hawk on long trips, this is my only vehicle that still has an ammeter, and it was just a tick above the center, I guess that's enough.

John took me to the parts store as his wife went shopping, in his crew cab dually with 2 car trailer in tow.

They waited until I swapped in a new vr and battery and my truck was set.

I felt very fortunate that day.

Then his wife gave me some homemade sauce!

Generous, kind, good people.

Went to an antique/junk shop today.
Thought if I can get in & out within 5 with some cool car thing, that would be, well, cool.

58 Coronet promo. Under 3 minutes.

Sun warped, but thinking a sunlit windowsill and a little tweaking might fix it.
Or just leave it.

Or take some spare model parts and make it into my vision of my actual car?

Does your basement look like an antique/junk shop as well, with the same stuff?

Great frame!

Keep chugging along. I've been following from the beginning.

My own 57 Coro is now painted. I had to replace pretty much the entire bottom of the car.... trunk, floor pan, lower quarters, rockers, bottoms of the doors, bottoms of the fenders, a different frame..... I'm wiring it now and will be driving it this summer.... 5 years of work bit by bit by bit. It WILL get done if you just keep going!

Wow, that's awesome, looks chopped.

My 62 Dart was in worse shape, never welded before and replaced everything on that car.

Did you make the floorpans?
My floors aren't terrible, just need to be fixed about 6" in from the rockers.
Not going overboard there, just flat sheet metal patches.

Car came with rockers, quarters, and other replacement panels, and I bought a trunk floor.

Passenger door could be better.

Got educated by someone smarter than me.

Apparently it's in above average condition, and a torsion bar promo, which is unusual for 1958.

I obviously noticed the torsion bars, but just thought that was the norm.

Cool!

That 58 Coronet in post 83 is actually a Custom Royal with the D500 engine. That was the top of the line Dodge back in the day.

Pan was from a wrecked and parted dry-climate 4 door I was very lucky to find. I removed it whole and then split it down the middle to re-install. Even it needed patches in the front foot wells though.
