You go FastFury! Look at it this way, what did they do before the 440? (Damn Kids!)

IMO; If you are going for period and like the "romance" of the 413's, you've have a gem there. Pick it up for cheap because parts will be a little salty. When I was in California during the '80's I rebuild a 413 out of my '64 New Yorker. The only affordable pistons I could find at the time were cast and they were more than forged 440 pieces.

There is a good reason Chrysler designed the early big block heads as a closed chamber design, they worked better! They were used thru the 1967 model years. Then with pollution control going into effect starting in 1968, the open chamber heads began to show up. Does anyone know what the piston below deck clearance is on the 67 and earlier engines? I am trying to figure out what the quench distance was from the factory on the early engines.

look up the hugh's website. they offer stock replacement pistons and give compression distance. even with a closed chamber head '67 and down engines had a crummy quench. leaded gas made up the difference. a custom quench/step piston can be done.

So 413 it is?! Update us if/when you get it!

If all your missing is air cleaners, they are out there, but pricey. Excellent reproductions are available too I believe.

If you get the 413, post some pictures of it please. I just got a 413 myself.

I believe that the 62, 383/343 hp and the 62 , 413 had the same carbs 3258 and 3259
Nick's Garage dynoed a B B with the factory cast iron dual quad intake, it produced 20 less hp over a decent single quad, but...it pulled hard all the way to 6000
