Shifter getting stiffer with time. Cleaned mechanism, works well. Cable I guess is next, but what length, 39' or 43'? on my 64 Dodge Polara Convert.
 
Lube everything generously.Disconnect the cables from the shifter and spray lube and let it run down the cables.

Also are you running a floor shifter or push button shifter? I have a little bit of push button stuff laying around

I purchased this Polara in '64, back when I was single, and has the original cable - to the pushbuttons.
I'm new to the site, and will try to get a couple of pix on. always open to learning.
Open to hearing about cable you may have.
