1967 plymouth satellite

making horspower is no problem. I used to work as a moper performance specialist for the 5th largest mopar performance dealer in the nation(back then at least) but that was long ago and i somtimes question my process, ya know? I was not sure about the piston to deck relation on the 74, is it lower in the hole or close to zero? so much I have forgotten. the 74 still has the hone marks evedent so a simple re-ring would do for the bottom end, a nice sized cam with the correct intake head combo should make some good power. any thoughts on the edelbrock pkg?

The 1974 440 engine is an 8:2 engine in stock form, but it does haven hardened valave seats on the heads.
You mentioned mix and match. You could use the heads from he motor home engine while building the '66 engine that is more like a 9:5-1 engine.
You'll want to go no higher than 10:0-1 because of the use of premium gasoline. Flat top pistons will help you get there, with the rebuild.

thanks Eddie, that was what I was thinking due to the combustion chamber cc's being about the same across the board. the 74 has the big valves with the hard seats, and the pistons on the 66 would be closer to the deck. the 6 pack rods are SUPER heavyduty and would withstand ALOT. some good forged pistons, upgrade the stock oiling system and the botom end should be sound.

ok an update on the progress( i will post pic's when I find the patch cable for the cam). I pulled the seats and carpeting out today and the floor is perfect!!!! I have come to expect every mopar I pulled the carpet on to no longer have a floor;) the saets have turned to dust and the plastic on the console is cracked. I will try and plastic weld the console and re-dye it. the top is in great shape with only a polish and paint required, I am in need of the small trim piece just behind the door, anyone? Does anyone know what works to clean up the polished trim around the door and window? they are a little rusty.

I used Wenol auto metal polish and double 00 fine steel wool on my stainless & aluminium trim. Looks just like new...

In addition to Hemidere's post, I have had great sucess with NOX ON metal polish. I have used it for 30 years with great results.

ok did some research on the fender tag and here is what I found, built nov 22 1966 in detroit, it seems to be a basic option car. bucket seat, console shift auto, 273 2bbl 293 gear ratio rear arm rest with ash tray and it was bright blue met(code 881) with white horizontal striping. I cant seem to find any photos of restored car's with any striping other than the GTX hood and deck lid stripes. do folks just not like them so they are left out of the resto or was this not a common option? Also this came with the indicator lights on the fender's, I have also seen a few cars with headrest's was this an option or a calif thing??

today I removed the window trim and tried some steel wool to clean a test area and it looks great! I will post some pic's as soon as I can.

ok I have been looking at several taillight bezels and have a question, what gives with the different style's? I have seen the "finned" type on GTX and Satellite and the plain type on the belvedere I's. Is it just people are useing the sedan type on the hardtops or is it a trim option. sorry if it's a dumb question but I like to know these things.

This isint the best picture, but to show you how well buffing works i thought id put this in for you, i tried the steel wool and it did make them a lot better but im not sorry for getting some new compounds and using the buffing motor/wheel.. This is using 124 compound on the wheel (not the pink colored stick laying there).. And before a coat of polish. Good luck to you..

Hey, congrats on your '67 Satellite.

Do you mean the thin pin stripe painted at the upper body crease? If so, that was standard on '67 Satellites. I believe standard on GTX's too. It was either white or black. You had to delete it if you didn't want them. It seems that a lot of resto's didn't put the pin stripes back on. Mine didn't and I have left it that way.

Fender top turn signals were also standard on '67 Sat and GTX's. Headrests were an option, but the '67 buckets were all made with the holes already in the frames, so they are easy to retrofit on '67's. '66 bucket seat frames only had the holes if the headrests were ordered, so they are hard to retrofit. Headrests became mandatory nationwide in '69, don't know about CA.

'67 Satellite and GTX's shared the 'finned' rear tail lights (and finned trunk panel). Belvies had the simpler style tail light, but the bezels interchange w/GTX-Sats, so on the cars you are looking at someone must have retrofitted Belvie tail lights. My '67 Satellite had that done to it when I bought it, so I corrected it. Note: The Belvie lenses DON'T interchange w/GTX-Sats. You have to swap the whole housing and all to interchange them.

Just so you know: Original Satellite side trim (wheel arches and lower crease horizontals) is all aluminum. GTX and Belvie II's are stainless. They don't interchange. It is hard, but not impossible, to find the correct aluminum '67 Satellite trim. Front grilles for '67 Sat/GTX/Belvies are all the same except for how they are painted: Black, white, argent, dark argent. Only Sats and GTX's have the Red-White-Blue center grille emblem.

Good luck and have a blast!

thanks Art, that was A LOT of info! the car will be moved into the shop this week and the teardown will really begin. I plan on hanging the body from the ceiling( we did a frame off resto on a 64 SS impala years ago and the bracing is still in the ceiling ) that way I can get "down and dirty" with the undercarriage.

You are most welcome AZ, glad you are able to keep it indoors and moving along. Winter can be a @#$%. Anything else you need to know, just ask.

Here's a little inspiration from our '67 Satellite...
