Hey guys,
I haven’t posted in a while, finally got around to doing some more investigating of my 440HP blocks to try to understand where they came from and if I can find out what car they came in.

Can someone explain to me how to decode them? Ive read the letter can determine the plant, so possibly the original car models?

1968 block - 8G179790
1972 block - 2F 15 145

G is St. Louis plant they only made b-bodies there
F is a C bodies only plant

8 = model year 1968
G = St. Louis Plant

As stated, St. Louis only made B bodies.

The VIN links to a car with an SPD of about December 19, 1967.
The VIN is too low to be a Charger R/T as St.L didn't start making Chargers until March of 1968.
That leave us the possibility of a GTX or Coronet R/T.

I can get this close: RS23L8G179056 is a GTX. Sorry, I can't put anything not he other side of the VIN to bracket it.

Thank you! This pretty much answers my question.
That 68 440 now lives in my Sport Satellite.
Any clue on the 72 HP440?
A google search said Newmark produced B and C Bodies.
Figured a Roadrunner, Polara, or Fury would get a HP?

For model year 1972 Newark produced full size Dodge and Plymouths and the 440-4 was optional across the line.
