Has anyone ever replaced the horn copper contact ring on the backside of a steering wheel?
1968 Charger stock steering wheel.
There is a thick metal snap ring (red arrow) that secures in the copper ring.
Before I go busting a knuckle or my steering wheel, are they any tips removing these snap rings?

Thanks in advance.

Note it's location so you can put it back exact! Clamp a pair of vice grips on it and then tap with a ball peen in the direction that will open the curl.. clockwise. Tap and pull as it goes round... it will come off. Reinstall you may need to make a taper to get it back in place.. and same deal, tap and push until it's back in place.

.....tap and push until it's back in place.
Counter clockwise direction?

Also I will have a new snap ring that came with the kit from Detroit Muscle Technologies, use that or the original? Or does it matter?

Noted on marking the original position.

Thanks for your response!!!

Nope, you've gotta tap it the same direction as removal, to make the ring open as you push in...

As for new or old, all you can do is compare them and go with your gut on that!
