1968 Coronet R/T - 4 speed to 700R4 Swap

Leave it be...I had a 68 automatic Coronet R/T and changed it to a 4 gear back in the 80's. No regrets. It was so much more fun to drive. Most people dream about 4 gear muscle cars. The 68 R/T and Super Bee are my favorite year B body Mopars. You can't improve upon perfection. My Avatar car is a 67 440 4 gear Coronet R/T. I would still rather drive it with the sloppy old Inland 4 speed shifter than a perfect automatic...even in traffic!
Man I hear ya... This is the only manual car I have right now so that's why I'm not jumping the gun to swap it... I actually like the gear spread that the Passon OD has and it cruises down the highway good... It has the Hurst shifter and a McLeod diaphragm clutch... Maybe just needs to be freshened up... Sometimes it just doesn't seem to want to go into first and second after being driven for a while.. That sux when you are stuck in Houston traffic...

Definitely going to check out the shifter to make sure it's not one of the issues... Clutch definitely needs some attention.... The car was a 440/4 speed... Original motor and transmission are long gone... It now has a 440 Six Pack setup with a Passon Hemi OD transmission... I believe the Dana 60 with 3.54 gears is still the original rear end...
Mine looked exactly like yours. I loved that car! I had to sell it for tuition and fees over 40 years ago. They run and move the best the way the engineers at Dodge made them. Unless you are running outlandish horsepower the factory components are the best. Good luck with whatever you decide. Maybe get Dan Brewer to help you get it back to stock and check the shifter. Good luck Dad's R/T that's a beautiful ride.

Maybe my opinion of 700r4’s is tainted, I had 2 chevy half tons. Both had the transmissions rebuilt. 1 of them twice fairly low mile trucks. Ill never have another or the 4l60e version.
I plan on a 46rh swap in my Coronet if you grind a rib or two off the O/D housing no floor pan mods. I seen Cope makes a bb case now. I wouldn’t have a problem with the ultra bell either.

I saw that the Ultra Bell is listed for $900 but had to dig to find this:

Just add it up. $2200 for the case, maybe $1000 for the converter, you need a functional overdrive unit to hang on it plus all the guts for the main case. By the time you're done, you're barely under the cost of a 4L60E/700R4 and you're still stuck with a 2.45 first gear.
