1968 Dodge Charger offered for trade, I need to know what the real value is

A kid offered me a 1969 Chrysler 300 and a 1968 Dodge Charger for trade on my restored 1967 Belvedere. I have asked on FCBO what the Chrysler 300 is worth, and I'm not 100% sure what the charger is worth. All I have so far are pictures and a little bit of info. The Charger has a title, original 318 auto, blue with a black top, needs quarters, floors, trunk, and rear filler panel behind bumper, rear frame rails and front frame rails are solid, missing headlight motors and rear bumper. If you guys need to know more in order to give a true value, let me know and I'll ask the kid.

No way. That charger is rough looking. Im guessing the 300 is as well. It typically costs more to restore than buy one done, so trading one that is done for 2 that need restored is no good imho

I would say:
Conservatively, $6,000 for the 68 charger.

1968 and 1969 Chargers seem to have a strong market.

Yup....what's the 67 worth? I like the 66-67 Belvederes and also the 68 Charger is my favorite year Charger but it looks to be a lot of work and only a 318 car but that makes it a good candidate for building what you want out of it. Not too sure it would bring more than 3k in my area tho. Even tho the 300 looks nice in the pics, I'd have to see it in person. It's also a very big car but they cruise nicely. Dad had a 69 New Yorker with a 440 and it hauled butt. I wouldn't mind having one but I would chose the Belvedere over the 300 if the prices were the same.

I want to sell one of my b bodies, the Belvedere, to raise the capital to get going on my 70 Cuda. The only reason I would take the trade would be to end up with a 68 Charger to restore for myself and a 69 300 to sell and raise some Cuda money.

Your Belvy is definitely worth more than those combined, I will say that. You'd sink 25-40K easily restoring that Charger depending on how much work you'd do yourself. C-Bodies, not a huge following or resale. IMO, if you really want a Charger and/or a C-Body, wait till your Belvy sells and go look for a car after that, preferably a driver or better...that is unless you are looking for a car to restore like you mentioned. '68 Charger with a 318, you better plan on doing a really good R/T clone or Resto-Mod for any resale, to become respectably even close to what it would cost to restore it. If recouping costs isn't a factor, well...go nuts. Good luck

I agree with propwash! No way is that charger (with 318) a good trade for your belvedere! Even with the 300, that looks ok from where I sit, but as I'm sure you're aware of mopar parts are extremely high in price and few and far between. Maybe if that was an r/t matching numbers car in that shape you'd see the 6k mark but not that one.

Sell yours and then go find one that is a driver you can make your own. That is how I did it. IMHO and 2 cents! Good luck!

I sold my stripped/shell 318 68 for $6,000.00 in two days. The guy who bought it drove 1,200 miles to pick it up and hugged me for saving it for him. There wasn't nothing on the car except rust, no glass, the qtrs., trunk and floor pans needed to be replaced too. I had flippers and suckers still calling me a week later. One guy who lived local wanted to make a 69 out of it, I laugh and showed him the door.

BTW the grill alone is worth $1,000.00 easy, another guy wanted me to part out mine for that.

the 300 is a nice car. but it'll probably need work.The post on the C-body of forum said it was a cosmetic "restoration". Looking at the pictures some under hood work is probably in order. The 68 Charger is in need of a lot work. So if you're looking for a light project and a heavy duty project. And if the 68 Charger is your dream car that you'd like to spend alot of money on. Go for it.

I'd keep trying to sell your car and use the money to get something more done than either of those cars.

I believe the Charger is worth the 6K. Very strong market and very desirable car. The 300 looks nice maybe worth 5-7K. As far as the trade if you are looking at it from a current value aspect probably not a great deal for you. The restoration costs so much depends on what level you are trying to bring the Charger to and how much of the work you are able to do. It all depends on how bad you want a 68 Charger!

I let the kid know last night the deal was never going to happen. I was going to let him down gently but he texted me asking if I would throw money his way on the deal at his dad's request. I told him what you guys and the c-body forum valued his cars at. I then told him that asking for cash on top of my car when my Belvedere is worth at least $10,000 more than his two cars was an insult. I guessed he figured all I could say was no but I think he was a bit out of line on that one.

I drove the Belvedere last night around the block and it put a huge smile on my face. There is nothing better than the sound of a big block mopar, and the smooth ride of an old b-body.

There's a sucker born every minute, and for every born sucker there's dozens of them that are made because they aren't keeping track of the market. And anyone who would pay $6k for that Charger still thinks it's about 2006 or so. There's a guy near me who's been trying to dump a ragbag 68 Charger for twice that much and big surprise, it ain't selling. It's great that you got your price, but I wouldn't want to bet on finding another sucker. I sold the 360 and 904 out of my Road Runner for $1,300, which was about $800 more than they were worth, but if someone's willing to pay who are we to say no.

Like with Road Runners, 68-70 Chargers are getting dumped back into the market like crazy and nice restored cars are going for $20k or well less, so it doesn't make much sense to spend more than $2-$3k on a ragged out project car.

the buckets and console in the 300 are a big plus , having owned a couple , it looks real decent at about 6 MAYBE 7000 to the right person. the 68 looks pretty ragged and rusted out, maybe 3-4000 on a good day , maybe 5000 to someone who has to have it. either way , I think you would have been upside down. it depends on how bad you would have had to have a small block 68 charger.
