My '68 Satellite is a textbook example of why some people shouldn't be allowed near their car's wiring. Anything that's been tinkered with is playing the Greatest Hits of "don't do this," whether it be twist-and-tape or twist-on connectors meant for solid wires.

Thankfully, I've sorted out most of this mess in the front of the car, but not the back. Until now.

Now, since the PO made a police package Belvedere clone(ish) of some description, there's a pair of CHP-style lights on the package tray, with a rat's nest of bad wiring associated with it. Since it's been added in, I'm not too fussed about how "original" that looks - so not a problem there.

However, the fuel gauge sender line - oversprayed in green and running under the long fuel vent line - is the antithesis of the neat, tidy cable routing I desire, and I can't imagine the factory simple routing it like this and calling it a day, as it'd obviously get chafed by something.

Still, for the life of me, I can't find an example of how it's supposed to be routed.

Curious if anyone has photos of original routing under the carpet. I wouldn't be against the idea of any creative routing either that's superior to whatever the factory did.
