ive been told this story for years that my dads cousin bought a 1968 hemi 4pd charger new, which my dad has physically seen as a teen and after a year of owning it he pulled a insurance scam on the car with a brick on the gas pedal sending it off a hill down a cliff way up in the mountains. just today after spending a year tracking down my dads cousin he told us where the car was left to die... turns out it wasnt a cliff but a small revene off an old rikity road way up in the mountains wich today is still rickity as it was 40 years ago. i have been on this road shooting before and the whole day we saw not 1 car. after this weekend my dad and i are going up there to see if she is still left where it was diposed of. chances are good where it was left. im usually not a lucky person but i sure hope that changes...lol

I wouldn't advertise it too heavily...if there was a payout the insurance company is likely still the owner.

BUT....cool story if it pans out!

Being from Vegas, I wonder what they would calculate the odds of you finding this car? Good luck with the search though!

lol not very good odds im sure...my dad knows those mountains pretty good though he grew up around that area. its in central california, ive gotta go there next week anyway so its deffinately worth takin a look. we actually did find a 68 charger up in those mountains already sitting up on a hill buried up to the rockers, car was in decent shape and no rust. went to the house that was closest to the car and and of course it was relatives car that had past away and they were going to restore it some day...right...lol. it was just a base model charger

I dislike insurance companies just as much as the next guy, but I have zero respect for those who commit insurance fraud.

i agree with you...but it happened 40 years ago and im 28 so i think im clear lol. here is that base model we found last year up there down a little dirt farmers road. 598904_2906687006197_1966108960_n.jpg

You would think they would at least put a tarp over it. Good hunting.

it's worth going for a ride & looking for it, might be just rotted away too, the 426 Hemi & drivetrain would be well worth the hassle, even if the body, suspension, interior & glass is all toast, it would probably be worth trying hauling it out, if you can even find it or someone else hasn't beat you to it already... Bring 4 rims & tires with you, some good chains, cable, straps & a strong a$$ winch, it's a 4000lb car, hauling it up a hill all dead weight... I wonder if it's on private land thou, if it is, it belongs to the land owner now after all these years... Let us know what you come up with, I know I'd be all over it, like stink on chit/white on rice...LOL... Not that anything will happen, but I wouldn't have told the insurance scam/fraud part of your uncles story, on the W-W-W thou & I don't think there's any "statute of limitations" on insurance fraud either, I might not go well, for your uncle unless he was already punished for the crime... hopefully there isn't any open files on the car or case either, to complicate anything... Good Luck

Just a thought, what could the insurance company have paid out on this thing in 1969? 4k tops? Offer them their money back.

I have a buddy that buys these vehicles from insurance companies in NY....
If the car isn't recovered, the insurer will pay you off & they are entitled to the salvage. A salvage title is issued for a vehicle that has become a "distressed vehicle".
A vehicle with a salvage title cannot be plated or used on public roads until it is recertified by a state rep...Each states has different rules on a salvage title for stolen vehicles....

Who said anything about putting it back on the road? I'm thinking 4k ain't bad for a resto correct, lo mileage 426 hemi drivetrain.

Not saying to put it back on the road....But if you do find the motor, trans & it has a vin# on it.... Its still a stolen part....If you installed used, major component parts, you must also provide the VIN from the vehicle(s) which parts were removed. You still would need a salvage title to make the parts viable again.....
