NEW PICTURES in the GOOGLE DISK link
Specs: Hardtop, 4 spd, assumed 3.55 Suregrip, Manual steering, manual drum brakes - Pertronix installed : With 6 passengers and fully loaded I got 15,8 Mpg going 70 Mph on longer trips and also doing leisurely cross country stints.
Built at the Hamtramk plant, this car was purchased in 2013 from Michigan. Still retaining all original body including the trunkpan which should be rare, this survivor 4 Spd car was bought for the purpose of cross country cruisning. Seller - thats me - is born in Boston but has been living in Norway. With a family of 6 - 2 adults and 4 children, we have made numerous trips in the eastern region during summer visits and otherwise the car has been stored. I have clleaned up the car a little since the inlcuded pictures: No mice activity found: There was a slight barn odor but the people at the farm have a mulititude of cats that love hunting mice so all is fine save someone with a sharp eye found some mice turds in the engine compartment.
The car has worn original paint, the rear pinion seal redone, money was generally spent on keeping the car dependable for longer hauls. At purchase it had ( I might have to correct this ) about 120 000 miles and the previous owner never used it during the winter months and was always garaged, hence you should be able upon inspection to make out factory markings in some places underneath. The initial pictures will reflect this car has just been pulled out of storage. I will clean it up a bit and will continue posting pictures. I will test drive it up and down the road here to get the brakes working better, with 100F+ temps lately that has been postponed. It has always been this way, the more I use it the better the brakes get.
Technical comments:
Engine : Uses exactly the amount of oil as specified in users manual and has no smoke at all. The heads have been done at about 100k miles to accomodate modern fuel (valve stems I believe) and might also be the reason why compression is down a little. Runs smooth unless you get above 90F and climb a hill it can get warm , the radiator is not clogged but its not the 26" one. Has been flushed most recently in 2023 when I last drove it.
Transmission: Shifts great, neeeds nothing , had a new clutch installed so it should be perfect. Come drive it. It feels great
Suspension: Rear springs were redone, stiffened so the car doesnt sag when full of people and luggage. Front suspension works fine but I would start to change some of the regular maintanance items. I do not think or have detected any rattling, its not a clanky car.
Steering : This is a manual car so if you do not have enough pressure in the tires it needs muscle to turn the wheel ! Being able to move it just slowly at first it becomes much easier. The road feel is GREAT with the manual steering though! I love it
Interior: A strong point of this car is that very little is wrong inside the car. The front seat cover may have been changed, otherwise its all as it was in 1968 and to my standards is excellent. Id say the headliner is superb.
Front windshield: Is a mystery to me, it could have been changed at one point. It still nice and blue where you want the sun blocked.
Body ; All original panels, drivers side behind door was smacked way back in 1969 and that repair is evident and has just been left alone. Underside pictures I will try to add.
This is a preliminary and incomplete posting : I will be editing and adding things as time goes by. I am here on vacation as I live in Norway so my apologies up front if there are a few days here and there I might not respond but I'll try.
Youtube video : You should see me in the car driving it around the track on skinny tires....later I did get to borrow some nice 17" 255/60 tires, that did help : Its lots of fun
More pictures link : 00EDH ROADRUNNER - Google Drive Notice 3 Zip files : #3 is the most recent, I will add pictures from under the car hopefully within today the 26th
