Great pics. The car looks incredibly solid. Such an amazing score!! Did you check to see if the last 8 digits of the vin are stamped on the passenger side of the tranny?

Just verified, they do NOT match.
PO told me yesterday that the original owner actually blew up the 440 and the PO bought the car as I found it (except for the hood).

So, my guess now is he sold the entire drivetrain and put in this 383, 833 4 speed and 489 rear.

The K frame date faces the front of the car just above the radiator yoke support bar. This should help you find it.

Great find! I may have missed it, but was this car originally red? If so, don't change it. As for adding steel wheels, many do, but that makes it look like every other stock A12...not that it's a bad look. I think Cragar SS rims look perfect on these cars. Day 2 modifications are really in right now. If you want to sell the Cragars, let me know!

@MRL777 , I heartily endorse Wes Eisenschenks book on 69 road runners. I learned a great deal about my A12, and his book is a superior resource for decoding a broadcast sheet. Available from amazon, but I couldn't wait, so I got mine from a brick and mortar B&N.

MRL, Sorry, I thought they were 15" wheels. Not looking for 14's. Good luck with the great find!

The car could be a recovery.

I had an offer in the 70's to trade my 69 for a 68 Hemi RR that had been stolen three times and twice the Hemi was yanked. The third time the Insurance Company put a 440 in it. We were buying cars without running gear back then from wrecking yards. Yanked a front end off of a Super Bee that had a defect on the RF fender from the factory, no antennae hole. A later visit located a three-two barrel carb kit under the drivers seat. Stripped cars were rebuilt and resold just like Super Birds were turned into Road Runners. Cars were stolen from Dealerships and when the Dealer recovered them they were "Rebuilt" and sold to friends and relatives. The possibilities are endless so verify what you do have and decide if it will work for you. Personally a car that used to be an A-12 is just a car with a funny story, just like a BB car that is cloned into an A-12 is just a car.

Reminds me of the stories of the old Hurst Shelby Mustang rentals back in the day coming back with different engines and parts missing

The sixties and seventies were the car years for me. I cut up a numbers 69 GTX just because I didn't like the color. You walked into a wrecking yard and asked "Were are the RoadRunners?" I ran across a 1st Gen charger with a heavy duty trailer hitch complete, running with a Hemi. A complete early XR7 Cougar that was fender to fender engine loaded with options. Climbed across a 442 glass hood thrown over a mud hole. Found a Ford 9" with a Locker that we put in my SS Nova. Street racing was hot and N2O had just come out and "Cheating" would get you an *** whipping. There was a drag strip close and one of the Bracket Racers had a Gremlin with a BB Mopar in it. He would drive it from the track to our racing spot and the brothers would show up with four cylinder bikes in the back of trucks. They would get spotted 2 or 3 cars and the Gremlin would pass them by the 1-2 shift. Wheels down and it hooked like nothing I had ever seen. We would Street Race until the sun came up. Great times! Still remember the smell of VHT and Moose Juice.

Very cool car. My Super Bee is similar to yours. Original paint interior and top yet the motor and trans were long gone. It’s it place was a 413 with the original top end on it with correct air cleaner and hood. I decided to make it a day two car, just like I would’ve done it had I bought it in 69. Cam, headers, ignition, tach drive dizzy, and bigs and littles. It runs high twelves on street tire and has been driven all over the western U.S. and raced in 4 states. Never on a trailer.

@wingcarenvy, did i see you racing that car at irwindale? Great ride, so cool you still race it!!!

Yes sir. Irwindale Is my home track. It went the fastest at Bakersfield. I stopped in for a Friday night test and tune on a trip up the coast.

I like the new wheels Chris...not as good as Cragar SS...but still good....:poke:

I actually wanted Cragars but the unilug is a deal breaker for me. I still won’t paint it green though.

Ignore him, Chris...:D

Great pic there on the coast BTW.

haha I’m used to the green machine throwing grenades. Thanks. I have a new spot that is a little more picturesque.

Lots of A12 cars are missing their original drive train. These cars had the crap beat out of them. My A12 car is the same, original engine and tranny was long gone. I put a 440 back in it and have had lots of fun beating the crap out of it some more!! It's original paint also.
