Received my hardware finish book the other day and thought it said the Phillips screw bolts holding the door latch in place (3 screws) are supposed to be silver in color. All 6 of mine were black... Not paint either, either phosphate or black zinc. Lynch road built roadrunner. Which is it? This is for the door latch, not the striker.

Sounds like they might of been replaced.

Ive seen them both ways

Go by whats on the car if you are reasonably certain they are originals

I'll add here.

I had this discussion with a show Judge years ago.
I've seen far enough cars with clear zinc screws to be an anomoly . Thus, my comment above

Good to hear you've seen both. Pretty sure they are original, the doors have never been apart. Ill go with black.

I forgot yesterday. I'll be in the shop shortly to do the brakes on my Daughter's Mazda, so I'll look at all of mine. Can't remember on my Bee above if those were original or resto parts, think original. I'll check the other cars.

Those are silver as well on mine, but I'm talking the door latch, not the striker.
My cars had the same finish on both. My dad had new Mopars during that era, and the few times I tightened door latches that worked loose, I found it interesting that the finish on the screws matched the latch. His cars were A bodies built at Hamtrmck.

Just looked again.. same same. MAYBE they used Black on black cars, or maybe what ever supply chain they could get that month.. who knows.

The screws on my ‘69 are silver, possibly zinc plated…
