Sirs -

I need some assistance. The basic question I have is "is there a way to shift the deck lid to the right?"

Here is my scenario. When I receive the car back from the painter, The deck lid lined up really well. However, when I installed the deck lid torsion bars, the plastic sliders kept riding too far to the center and even popped off once. When closing the lid, It looks as if the hinges are angled slightly inward when the lid is lowered leading me to question whether the hinges are different for left and right side. So what i did was remove the deck lid and swapped the hinges to the other side, reinstalled the deck lid and torsion bars and, whalla, the torsion bars and sliders are perfect.

The problem is that the deck lid has no gap on the drivers side and too much on the pass side. So, knowing that I'm working with a finished paint job and no room for additional bodywork, my question. "is there a way to shift the deck lid to the right?"

Any ideas?? I'll try and post some pics later today.

Had the same problem with my car after trunk lid was off for paint although nothing else changed. Almost no gap on the left side and a huge gap on the right, but the gap was consistent front to back. Adjusting the latch may solve your some of the problem, but a shove on the side with no gap where the trunk lid attaches to the hinge in addition solved mine. Push gently and test shut the trunk lid so as it does not close far enough so paint hits paint. Tape the edges if necessary before you try this. The latch alone adjustment may solve yours if the gap is inconsistent front to back.

Thanks GTX, I'll give her a push tonight. Did you reinstall the spring clips on your hinge pins? My worry is that a shove for alignment may work for now, but that one time I close the trunk and it moves back.....

The stuff bends. It was designed to do so.

Deck Lid alignment is the grand Poobah! If you changed qtr panels out, getting it all back to line up is tedious. The 'How' is rather complex and has a lot of issues and variables. A good body shop can convince them all to align.

i got a 68, bending it works also noticed my hole is a little sloppy on one hinge, filled hole with weld, then re-drilled in a press, but before that i put a washer between the hinge and the mount and it did push it over, ended up not using washer though. i know bending is a little scary and welding is out of the question for you. i'm working on mine still in primer stage, havent got it quite perfected, but damn close. suprisingly alot of adjustment with four bolts. maybe washer will work for you? good luck.
