Hello everyone. I had a question(s) regarding an engine swap. Currently we have a 1970 Charger with a late model 440 swapped in. It was originally a 318 car. Here's the deal, the current 440 is questionable and the transmission behind the engine needs rebuilt. I have a rusty 1977 C-Body with a good 440/727. I've assuming the oil pan in the C-Body will work for the Charger?

Additionally, the car currently also has a bad power steering pump and a mismatched pullies. Another thing is that the C-Body also has manual AC (non ATC). I'm just wondering if I could run the AC compressor and the power steering pump from the '77 with different hoses? I'm a newbie at this stuff but, I'd figure I'd ask. My overall goal is to get the car up and running fairly quickly if possible without spending a lot of money right now. I'd figure this would be the better place to ask?

Pretty sure the oil pan will NOT fit. Don't know what you mean by manual AC (non ATC).

Thank you. Well, at least I have the oil pan from the other 440 then. What I mean by ATC is "Automatic Temperature Control" which is a different beast compared to the standard AC on the C-Bodies from that era. I'm slowly going through and fixing the prior owner's hack/mistakes which was a mess lol.

If the later model pulleys, PS pump, AC comp are matched and located where they can fit in the '70 engine bay, should work OK.

I can't say for sure about the '77 C-body oil pan, but I can tell you a '72 C-body (Imperial) oil pan will fit a '69 B-body.

Edit: Just to clarify; I'm referring to a Big block '69 B-Body.

Thank you. The car has the pullies, pump, AC compressor all still attached. The C-Body runs and drives. It's just very rusty and I've had the Charger off the road for a while. Time to try to get it going.

Come to think about it, I once pulled and rebuilt a 400 from a 1978 New Yorker and ran it in my '69 Super Bee for a few years. It was a long time ago but I'm sure I used the original C-Body oil pan.

Dont the newer pans have a recessed area for clearance? Seems like i remember a newer car pan will work in the older car but the older pan would hit the steering linkage in the newer car?

I believe the C body pans are the 699 and will fit the b body k member. I am using one on my 440 in my charger. the 187 will work as well

699 is the number on the pan that's on the 440 in my Bee at this time. (from a '72 C-Body)
I once pulled an HP 440 out of a '68 Polara Ex-Highway Patrol car which would have had the 187 pan. We put this 440 in my 383 Dart GTS but I don't remember if we switched pans. Too many moons ago.
Now I'm curious if there's a number on the pan of the 1978 400 I once used in the Bee. It's in the shop on a cradle under a bench, I'll have to grab a mirror and go take a look. I do know it has the drain plug on the side.

the 187 are the pans that are being used for the big block A body swaps. both the 699 and the 187 have the idler arm reliefs stamped into them. I believe they are pretty much the same pans. the big block A body pans are now being repopped so there's another option.
