1970 Dodge Daytona adjusted for inflation.

That's my thought. I believe that the guy who bought the purple car wanted a Daytona, but wing cars were not allowed to be sold in Maryland, they were tough on the new crash standards. So when the dealership asked about a wing car for a potential buyer,Dodge sold him that car. I remember seeing a yellow Superbird with a modified Cuda bumper on the nosecone so it could be registered in Maryland. The purple car had two rear half bumpers from a C2 Corvette installed on the nosecone to be Maryland legal.

The Rapid Transit show cars are a completely different subject.

So, both Chargers are standard XS cars. It's also worthy to note that neither car has "Daytona" anywhere on the bodies. The green car was modified "somewhere" back in the day, and I will agree that it was probably modified under the direction of Chrysler, but was it ever displayed in any shows? Getting to the purple car; when was it modified, and where & by who?
The purple car was not one of the 112 factory sunroof 1970 Chargers, the car was sent to American Sunroof by Dodge special order. The paperwork shows sunroof conversion. My guess is that the same shop did both cars. Other than the blended nosecone and paint the cars are virtually identical.

The purple car out in the rain.

I think because of the XS vins,Dodge thought they could sell these two cars under the radar, and get by the Federal crash standards, but Maryland cought the purple car during inspection, and made them modify the nosecone before registering the car. A black primered Daytona wing was found and upon stripping the paint, two toned green paint was found under the primer. According to the Aerowarriors website the two cars, and possibly a third one were built by Creative Industries. There was supposed to be between 30 to 35 built, the Federal crash standards nixed that plan.
