Hello,

I was checking out a car with an engine and car built within 40 days of the production date but the vin stamped on the block and trans is one digit off from the actual vin. I'm thinking the car has it's original driveline or am I mistaken? Would you guys out here be comfortable buying it as a numbers matching car?The current owner also believes it is the original too. Thanks as always and any information anyone in the know out here would be great!

Engine date: 10-06-1969
Date built: 11-14-1969

I assume you mean the last digit is 1 number off correct? or was it a different digit in the series?

It was actually the second number. The actual vin number is a 5, but the stamp is a 6.

Actual last digits stamped on engine and trans 160125
Vin 150125

Thanks.

that is quite a spread. However, I used to own a 70' challenger that had all the body numbers the same, but the very last digit on the vin was one off. if all your other numbers are the same, then it would be very difficult to have located another drivetrain so close in numbers, so I would also believe it was an error. Now if all 13 digits luckily were on the drivetrain, that would be the real deal.

Chrysler started every model year with 100000, so as mentioned that's quite a spread. I appears to me you only have a strange coincidence.
