O'Reilly? I mean, I only recently heard about hoses being different. I "thought" it was only a difference of a couple fittings???? Someone please provide more info if you're sure about it.
IF(?) I remember correctly, not so much the fittings. It’s different o-rings, mainly; the molecules in R-134 are smaller & will seep thru the old R-12 hoses(how fast, don’t know). Refrigerant oil is different too, so all the old oil has to be flushed out;change the rec/drier also.
Having done quite a few conversions over the years, from complete changing hoses/expansion valve/ drier/fittings/condenser, to just changing the fittings only. I've experienced... No difference. { shrugs shoulders}
are you doing 134a or 1234 conversion. i also have done many different conversions. the only thing i find is that after a year the old r12 hoses want to leak. so i just do everything now to secure the job is done correctly. when you do it also make sure you change the high and low pressure switches to fit your weather. in phoenix i use r12 adjustable on the low side and use 134a switch on the high side. i also use a cut out switch for the clutch for cycle reasons.
unknown its something dupont dreamed up because the permit for 134a ran out and was not renewed. of course most of this is gov controlled. i do know that parts are on some of the new cars and the cost of freon will be sky high. so go figure that one we pay more to do the right thing i believe its just bs.
