Has anyone else had a leak where the brake pedal goes through the firewall. Just wondering if this is repairable or does the whole booster need rebuilt.
Jumping on this post, if anyone has encountered pedal problems after disc brake with power brake conversion that is a very soft spongy pedal with excess pedal travel, looking for advice. The shop that did the work left the brake pedal so high it was easier to reach down as a hand brake than a foot brake. Redid the adjuster screw (installed a shorter one to drop pedal and redid brake light switch to accommodate this change). I've re-bled system, checked prop valve, new rubber lines installed, and no luck. I'm afraid I might have a vacuum leak but so far unable to locate and could be inside of the booster. Anyone having run into this problem with any advice is appreciated. It happened on mine so I replaced the master cylinder. Not very costly and a no brainer.
It's leaking air and you can really hear it in the cabin of the car. Would a bad master cylinder do that or has it ruined the booster. Its not losing any fluid yet just wondering if the diaphragm in the booster has perished. When you hit the brakes it makes a loud whoosh noise. ThanksAir or fluid? if its fluid you need a new Master Cylinder, pull it off you may see a leak behind it. The fluid has been going through the rubber seal into the booster then leaks out on to the carpet eventually.
Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking. Had the same thing happen on my 1967 Cougar as well. Just wasn't sure if you could just replace a gasket or not. Guess a rebuild is in the future hereMine was like that had to get it rebuilt
