Ok so I am currently restoring a '72 charger and have all the mechanical worked out and am now on to the cosmetic, so heres where I get stuck. I just got my tax return and am devoting a portion of it to the car, and I don't know where to put the money as I have stuff for both the exterior (new primer, sanding blocks, new chrome pieces, etc.) and stuff for the interior (new carpet kit, dash cover, and center console) I mean I could always just sand the car down and re-prime it and do the interior (recover and refoam the seats and redo the headliner) but I don't know if I would rather have a nice interior and a decent exterior or a nice exterior and a weak interior. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks everyone! Oh and I will be doing all the paint and body work myself, as well as installing the carpet, only thing I am outsourcing is the seats being recovered.

I would focus on the exterior....First off it's the first thing people see. Second off, It makes alot more sense to keep your sheetmetal up to snuff vs. Interior. Interior gets worn out/beat up, like you said.....some new foam and covers and you're golden. Sheetmetal gets worn out/beat up/rusts, then your looking at tons more work, money and time to fix compared to interior. 3rd...If you do go the body route, don't leave it in primer if you're going to be driving it around. That's asking for rework.

Just my 2 cents..........post up some pic's if you get a chance.

If you have the skills and equipment to do the bodywork and paint, then I would say its a no brainer. Get the exterior done then work on the inside when additional funds are available.
