I recently purchased a 1972 ssp with a matching number 400/727, and 8 3/4 sure grip...Options on this car include buckets, console, rally dash with/clock in place of tach, am/fm radio, a/c, rear defrost, power windows (fronts work, rears don't), tilt, ps,pb, factory duals and inside hood release... Car is complete running driver, get in it go..Interior is complete with minimal to no missing parts (steering wheel is replaced) and recently redone, headliner is missing but all the bows present and came with a replacement..Engine runs well..don't trust it enough for 100 mile trip yet, but fine around town..
Paint color is/was honeydew with full black vinyl top
Engine is complete including ac that was converted to 134A and works..Has aluminum intake and edelbrock carb, alum. valve covers...Came with original cast iron intake and valve covers, missing original air cleaner..
Good: highly optioned, matching numbers big block drive drivetrain running/driving, complete redone interior with nothing missing..All exterior parts present... trunk floor, floor pans and frame rails appear solid..Brand new aluminum radiator...New front spoiler and rear wing..New tires and rims (aftermarket)
Bad: Body is in rattle can black..all exterior trim is present with few missing parts..It is missing all the emblems, the bumpers are complete, dent free but will need rechromed..The quarters will need replaced (bondo'd for now and over a repair and look presentable in primer), BUT it came with both full quarter skins...I am assuming all the lower sections of the car will need work in some way, shape or form as it is from ohio, the rear valance with dual cutouts is toast..inner fender has some issues..Needs complete exhaust..
Ugly:The interior was originally honey gold but the guy I bought it from repainted everything black which I don't mind as much as that he left some of it in the car when he did it and got overspray on a lot of stuff (it comes off, but with a lot of elbow grease)...
I probably overpaid (8000), but the way I figured it, it really is a highly optioned roadrunner (or low gtx) that runs and drives and looks decent as is but will never be worth as much...I plan on driving it as is for the summer and possibly start a resto this winter and take it back to original sans the interior as it will stay black because of the cost of changing a basically new interior to gold...I will post some pics later today to see if I am already starting this project under water....Did I do ok based on the description?

How are the frame rails and underbody? I have the exact same thing except major rust issues.

If its rust free.. I think you paid a little high but if nothing major needs to be replaced (or easily found) and its just mostly cosmetic and you really like the car and its what you wanted then good job.

Got pictures? :D

Pics will come later today...I know it's tough going by a description and no pics, and tried to describe to the best of my ability, but the floors and frame rails are solid...The thing that sold me on this one is the amt. of options it had present such as the power windows, a/c, ps, am/fm radio and power disc brakes , exactly how I would have ordered it..and the completeness of all the small parts, these things will nickle and dime you to death..

Sounds like you are happy with it..and that's all that matters. I wouldn't worry about the dollar amount! 8000 doesn't seem too out of line for a car you can get
in and drive and enjoy right away anyways

I agree, as long as you are happy, you did well.

:welcome: aboard!

We love pictures.

x3 if your happy that's what counts  , sound like a great starting point . back to factory colour or colour of your choice ? oh and welcome aboard

Here are a couple quick pics.. I am planning to go with the original color with a black vinyl top WP_20160321_15_55_44_Pro.jpg

Nice car....I am going to try to restore this to the fender tag (minus the interior), no build sheets present as the interior was redone already and they seem to have "disappeared"...I have never done an entire teardown before, so this will be an adventure this winter...I will start a resto thread at that point..I had been looking for quite some time (didn't know about this forum) for a good solid starting point and there really wasn't a whole lot available when I finally came up with enough money to buy one within a reasonable driving distance from me to look at it in person, especially with all the flipping going on now...This was the best available, I found a very solid mostly done 318 car...But it was a 318, it will never be a big block car (originally), and I really wanted something original (matching)...

Nice car. Yeah, $8k was a bit high, but not by too much. I would definitely stay with the black interior. :) I would also scratch the vinyl top and go with a set of Roadrunner strobe stripes since you already have the RR valance emblem. Find a RR hood and make it a clone.

here's mine, the color really grows on you.

your car sounds identical to mine, except for the top.

I don't think I'm going to clone this one, there are a ton of them out there already and I think with this being a factory big block 4bbl car as is, it will be unique enough as a stand alone car without turning it into something it's not..Although, I am torn on the spoilers, they do spruce up a rather "plain jane" exterior..

i was thinking of cloning mine, but, i think the ssp is getting a little more rare, everyone has cloned them into a RR or GTX, so they are starting to stand out a little more, only bad thing about the 72 ssp is the 1 year only side body trim, if you dont have it, it's like looking for a unicorn !
