To me it looks like a stock 383 with closed chamber heads. Judging from the color of the exhaust valves, it looks like it ran OK before the tear down. The #4 piston looks a little cleaner on the front than the rest of them. I can't see the rear of the #2 piston though. It may have had a head gasket problem there. A little amount of water seeping into a combustion chamber will clean off some carbon. Take a good look at the gasket, and if your planning on reusing the heads, have the gasket surface checked, and have them checked for cracks while your at it.
Suggestions:
Try to keep everything like push rods, rocker arms, in the same order that you removed it if you are planning on reusing some of these parts.
Pick up a good book on building engines. In your case I would recommend something like "Building Big Block Mopars" or something like it.
Clean your parts like you were performing surgery in an operating room. Then clean them again ............ right before you install them.
Get a very good torque wrench. Don't use dirty tools for engine assembly work. Use lint free shop rags for cleaning your parts.
