Hey Guys.

I want to strip the body components off my Coronet to get access to the reverse side so that I can sand and get rid of some rust spots. Problem is, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to take them off. are they welded in? Do I have to cut them off? Are they joined with the roof and one piece?

Thanks

This may come off as a bit harsh, but you have a lot to learn about cars.

I admire your willingness to restore your car, but take a little bit of time learning more about it.

To answer your question, you car is what is known as uni-body construction. This means that the 'frame and body panels are welded as one unit. This includes the rear quarter panels, the front apron and the rear trunk area. The only 'bolted on' parts are the grill, hood, front fenders, and doors. all other sheet metal is welded together and must be sanded in place, or sand blasted by a professional.

Take a look around on this site, and others, and get yourself a factory service manual for your car. This will show you how your car is constructed and how to service the various parts and pieces.

I wish you luck with your project.

Sure do have lots to learn. Got to start somewhere, just like you did...

Thanks for answering my question.

If you were to unbolt every part of your car, this is what you would be left with:

Your only choice to get to the inside of all of the rear quarter panels would be to access it through the trunk, and by removing the rear seat and rear trim panels.
