I purchased a 1973 Dodge Charger original 400/4speed-now a 1970 440/4speed. I had my mechanic get it up on the lift and we noticed the drag link is hitting the oil pan. It appears to be a chrome aftermarket oil pan. The idler arm is loose and needs to be replaced, however, we don't think its loose enough to allow the drag link to hit the oil pan.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

is the pan notched for the idler arm? some of those cheap chrome pans are not notched. you need a 699 or 187 pan

The Drag Link is actually hitting the pan. Would this solve that problem?

Thanks!

Has the ISO K frame been modified at the pan sump area? If not you will need the 971 pan as the 187 pan will touch the Kframe when you put the engine back into place. Oh and the 971 is not notched. I dont know why your draglink would be hitting that pan unless someone has changed something like the idler or steering arm that is just not right... sorry perhaps with some pictures

I had that problem too but in a -65 coronet with 400" engine. Even with the correct enginemounts and polylocs the draglink touched the oilpan (deep sump from 440source), however i have both a 1/4" girdle and a windage tray so that puts the oilpan lower.
My solution was to gently hammer the pan with a plastic hammer and form a dent where the link goes.
