Most of the RR I hav seen have the 8 3/4" for 73 & 74
I had a 318 RR with a 8 3/4 and now a 340 with an 8 3/4
From what i have heard from this website its a pretty stout rear and easily identifiable.

The Hamtrammick registry website should have all that info plus much Much more

Back in 1975 I bought a slightly used 74 400 4 speed that had 8.75 rear with posi with 3.23 gears. Now I have 3 Roadrunners all 400 4 speeds (all matching drivetrains) (373's) 1 1973 Charger Rally 400 4 speeds They all came with either 3.55's or 3.23's, 8.75 489 case. I have since experimented with 4.30's NOT, 391,s and 410,s. I'm pretty sure the ones that got the 8.25 rears were 318's

I parted a 73 RR with a 318 automatic and it had an 8 3/4, but it may have also been installed by a former owner. My 73 HP 400 Satellite has an 8 3/4 with 3.23 open gears

i have a 73,74 rr and both dont have a 83/4 but a 81/4 i belive or 91/4 all i know i wish they had a 8 3/4

73/4 318 RR would probably have a 8.25 unless optioned with a tow or perforance axle.
in 71 Mopar started putting more 8.25 rears in B-bodies than in earlier cars. Mostly HP cars along with wagons got the 8.75. Not always but mostly. Have had several BB 2-bbl cars with the 8.25 Have a 74 Coronet 400 4-bbl with 8.25 Think most 4-spd cars got the 8.75

That chart is good to determine what rear you have but it does have a few errors as to their applications.
8.75 was used in B,C, E and 1/2T trucks though 74. In 75 9.25 replaced it.
8.25 was never used in trucks in the 70's. Was 8-3/8"
8.25 started in B's mid 69-up
9.25 started in B's late 73. Both 8.75 and 9.25 were used in 74 B's
7.25 was the only other rear made for the E-body besides the 8.75

Ok, Help me to understand this a bit better, if the 73-4 came with (usually) the 8.25 or the 8.75 then where did the 9 1/4 come into play, was there particular cars they were made for? Mines a Sat. but, i assumed it came with a 8.25 and found the 9.25, Id like to know if i can, where the 9.25 comes into all this.. anyone? I think someone swapped the original out for the one in it, but maybe im wrong.. going by what im reading though, i makes me think it,, I cant see any real benefit doing it, if that is the case..

The 9.25 was the new heavy duty rear to replace the 8.75. HP cars and wagons mainly. The 9.25 is a good strong diff, good up-grade from a 8.25

Both my 318 Chargers have 8 1/4.
Can't see Plymouths being any different.

Seen a lot of non-perf 67 B bodies with smaller than 8 /3/4.
Most 66 B's seem to have 8 3/4, but not 67.

71/2 rear will work in a 73/4. If you use the 73/4 isolators you need to drill out the hole in the perches alittle bigger.
Should note that cars optioned with a tow or performance axle got the bigger diff.

Thanks, that explains why someone did it, i have no idea why some things were done as they were on my car YY1.. Plymouth should be the same as the Charger with what were talking about. But I knew they (9.25 were a decent rear end, hard to find parts for) But i didn't know until now why the time to change it. Heres a picture, i know its the 9.25, old picture but i can get a better one, my fuel tank is out. will the bottom shock mount plate work from a 8.25 to use on a 9.25? Im changing shocks, they all came off good except passenger side, broke nut off flush with the bottom shock stud? Who ever changed all this also put a 727 in it, im sure it came with a 904, its only a 318 car..

Looks like you got a sway bar too.

If it's a real RR, it might have come with some HD stuff.

Yes, Ill tell you what, i read a lot of you and mopar marks comments on these cars and if you guys can help me understand why things are as they are on my car i would appreciate it, everything i see and read does not coincide with how the satty is supposed to be, i admit to knowing little or nothing on these year of cars... the 727, when everything i read says it should be a 904, why? just someone upgrading? the 727 was only supposed to come with a BB, this came with a 318, but i don't know thats true and it did come with the 318. why the 9.25 and rear sway bar, i keep finding things that do not match what should be.. signed.. Corn fused.

At a car show looking under the rear of a 74 RR and no anti sway bar? again confused and just thought of this! Seems to me that is odd!!
