If I remember from my charger, it is the "Seat belt interlock " switch.

ya 69bee is right, Its the Seat belt interlock switch. Took mine out

So that's what that is! I'd been trying on and off to figure it out since I owned my Roadrunner. Thanks guys! Someone had once told me it was a remote start for mechanics, lol :toothy12:

Yes, back then the govt mandated that farce. A big pain in the a$$, people used to get the thing bypassed.

The red button on top was a bypass so it could be started by mechanics

Look Familiar

This was painted over and I kept it as a reminder of how the thinking of Washington has not changed since I was in high school

The seat belt interlock system disables the ignition system if the front seat weight sensors detect any weight on the seats and the seat belts are not fastened. The problem was this meant mechanics would have to always be fastening and unfastening the seat belt while working on cars.

The mechanic would turn the ignition on, get out and depress the switch, and this allowed him to attempt to start the car as many times as needed, with the seat belts unbuckled, until the ignition was turned off. Once the ignition was turned off the mechanic needed to repeat the process to get the car started again.
