I have 1984 Dodge D100 pick-up I converted it from a slant six to a 440 years ago. Suddenly it seems the amp gauge is not working. It shows neither charge or discharge. If I turn on the headlights with the engine not running the gauge stays in the middle/neutral position. Any suggestions where to start? Thanks!!

That year was not a true inductive ammeter. It used a shunt. Could be the gauge or shunt wiring. Some moved very little.
