In Richard Petty's biography, he remarked that the first time he drove a hemi around the track, he thought it was going to suck the hood in. He asked Chrysler "Is this thing even legal"?

I seem to recall it was Ford that complained about the Hemi. If you can't beat 'em, ban 'em.

Likely why Ford won 48 out of 55 races that year.
Then when Ford came out with the 427 Cammer, it was Chrysler's turn to cry NO WAY, leading Nascar to ban the Ford engine as well.
