2020 Drag pak Challenger

IMO the Turbo 400, is to the GM world what the Dana 60 is to the Mopar world, and the 9" Ford is to them. Not that you can compare transmissions to rear ends. I don't see a problem combining the best of the best to make a superior product.

This one has a 9" Ford 4-linked in the rear. Sure it could have been done with a Dana but...............

The aftermarket support and parts available for the GM trans is cheaper and higher power handling at the price. A MoPar trans, I’m sure, can be made to handle 1,000 hp. But at what cost vs the GM 400?

A stock 9 isn't much stronger than an 8 3/4. The 9 having 3 million different gear ratios is one of the reasons (and having the drop out pig) that the aftermarket decided they could make good money on it so it became the industry darling. Drag rear end builders also like the fact that they can more easily weld brackets with a more narrow width to the 9 than they could on the Dana.

Most of the early funny cars used TFs. Seems like the TF held some pretty good HP in the past. What are the current 68 Hemi A bodies using?

You are forgetting the fact that the ford 9" has an extra support bearing at the rear of the pinion shaft which makes it much stronger than an 8 3/4 rear

Yes. Believe me, I hate to give "the other guys" much credit, but the Ford based 9" is hard to beat. That is what the Quick Performance rear axle assembly I ordered custom made for my wife's 65 421 Tripower GTO is. I maxed it out with upgrades, including the Daytona pinion support. It's not ever going to break!
Now I still revel in having a factory original Dana 60 in my Roadrunner but the QP 9" in the GTO is damn good!
